No problem... I realized you were talking about old commuter days, etc. I wasn't worried about you.. just wanted to make sure no one else got the wrong idea. You know, just doing a little "CYA"! ;)
Interesting point you brought up about the speed restrictions we often see from ATC. Maybe the 320 mostly flies to large hub type airports. But on the 88 and the -9, we often fly to smaller airports where ATC doesn't hold your hand during the approach. The ability to do what I was talking about earlier presents itself quite often flying the 88 and the -9. In 12 years of flying out of ATL, I usually even got the opportunity to do it going in there a couple of times a year during those rare times when there was no one ahead of us on the approach and they didn't give us any speed restrictions. I've seen lots of guys slow down and configure early in those situations because they just assume that's what the controllers want. A little SA goes a long way. But the point I'm trying to make is that we should take advantage of the opportunity to save fuel whenever the situation presents itself and it makes sense to do so. To me, that's just part of being a professional aviator. |

Are Delta and UsAir in an airline brawl?
By Ben Mutzabaugh, USA TODAY Could Delta and US Airways be engaged in a tit-for-tat battle (80ktsclamp: it's tit-for-tit, tit-for-tat makes no sense) over routes out of New York LaGuardia and Washington National airports? That's the opinion of Brett Snyder, author of The Cranky Flier aviation blog. His column on the subject comes shortly after each airline announced new flights -- Delta at Washington and US Airways at New York -- following the collapse of a proposed slot between the airlines. Noting that "US Airways will be adding a net of 17 new flights a day at capacity-controlled LaGuardia," Snyder wonders "where exactly are these magical slots coming from? According to US Airways, the slots were on a 'short-term lease' that has now ended. Hmm, anyone want to guess to whom those were leased? If your guess isn't Delta, hang your head in shame," Snyder writes. And, since that slot-swap deal fell through, Delta announced it would expand at Washington National and -- now -- US Airways at LaGuardia. In the fallout, Snyder concludes that in the fallout of the collapsed deal, Delta "took its slots back from US Airways at National and decided to build them up. US Airways ... then took its slots back and decided to throw down in New York as well." Snyder says: "Nothing says summer fun like an airline brawl, right?" Check out Snyder's Cranky Flier column on the subject for of his take on the possible Delta-US Airways spat. --- Senators push Teamster Pension Bailout, changes to PBGC Supposedly one senator from PA and one from NJ are pushing legislation that would commit tax dollars for a bailout of the Teamsters retirement pension fund. Under the plan, the U.S. Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., which is basically a pension-insurance fund run by the federal government, would be able to receive tax dollars to bail out so-called orphan pensions — pensions for which employers have ceased making contributions, usually for reasons of insolvency. Under normal circumstances, PBGC does not use taxpayer money to bail out pensions; it charges an insurance premium to the funds it covers and uses that money to make good on pension obligations if a particular pension fund goes bankrupt. It’s like an FDIC for pension funds: If a fund is sufficiently mismanaged, PBGC can step in, take it over, and take care of its obligations. The bill would change all that, creating a “fifth fund” within PBGC that would receive taxpayer support. Currently, federal law carefully specifies that PBGC obligations are not obligations of the U.S. government. Casey-Pomeroy would reverse that, mandating that “obligations of the corporation that are financed by the [fifth fund] shall be obligations of the United States.” --- Random videos for your evening: Jetting Through the Grand Canyon at river level in 1959, before regulations | Airspacemag.com Space shuttle from prep to launch in 3 minutes | Air & Space Magazine Refueling Over Iraq Video, view from back of a C130 as F18s refuel | Air & Space Magazine |

Big sign right off I85. It was very popular for folks to stop on the interstate and take pictures by. I think it went out of business a few years ago but I think it ranks up there with the best of "I know thats not what you mean, but..." |
I heard a funny rumor today. A new hire class was told that DAL wants to bring all 70 and 90 seat flying back to mainline. The person telling the rumor said that DAL owns the leases to these aircraft.
Ok, go ahead and laugh at me. |

You haven't lived until you've visited a Busy Beaver Hardware store. |
There are other rumors on other websites stating we are going to get more 747-400s, and hire another 500 pilots. Anyone else hearing stuff like this? Sounds good.
