We could get by with a lot fewer reserves if we knocked off a couple X days. 13 is way too many. And shortcall limits? What's up with that? Why only 6 short-calls? Make it 8 or 10.

And how about some good old "lean-overs" like the RJ drivers do? Sleep on the jet. Think of all the new-hires we could eliminate.

The list goes on and on.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, I sure wish some of those here (mostly ALPA insiders) would quit trying to do management's job, selling the rest of us on increased productivity, working more hours while we would rather be home enjoying our families.

Lets say you'll retire as #1000

With no new hires and attrition let's say there are only 2000 pilots on property.
You're at the 50% point for seniority.
That means you'll retire as a senior FO or a junior CA on junior equipment and the lower pay that comes with that.

Let's just say for the sake of argument that we keep the pilot numbers steady at 12000.
Then you'd retire at about 83%.
You'd hold a decent schedule on a wide-body with good pay.

It's kind of funny. In the "worst recession in decades" Delta was losing millions, but managed to carry every single pilot on the list. Why wouldn't it be possible to earn more and hire at the same time? Especially when the airlines as a group are posting record profits not seen in a decade?

I just don't think hiring and much better pay are mutually exclusive.
Actually not-hiring will mean less pay, except for those very few that retire in the double digits.

Let's not already put our head in the sand before we start negotiating.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and all that.

Cheers
George

Actually, if you retire as 1,000 out of 12,000 you would be at 8.3% not 83%

LOL

I'm just picturing a bunch of cable-tv execs sitting around a table pondering a rate hike. They all are in agreement except for one guy that raises the issue:

"There's only so and so much pie the consumer has, we can't raise the rates."

And so it goes that the cable-tv bill hasn't seen an increase since 1990 ;-)
Hey as far as the folks who send me bills are concerned there is bottomless pie!

Cheers
George

Ah yes, you are correct.
Of course that completely disproves my argument then doesn't it?

Cheers
George

P.S.: I'm sure 1234 won't answer the question about the validity of the argument now...

Well, actually, pricing is one of the key items to having a successful company and there actually is only so much of the pie to be had. If you raise the price to much, consumers will find a substitute product or abandon the luxury all together.

I never agreed or disagreed with you or your position so I am not quite sure where the P.S portion of your statement comes from. I will try and find the time later tonight to discuss your position, but I am not for adding more pilots just for the sake of adding pilots. If we are expanding the flight hours, then yes, I want more pilots. I don't want to hire a bunch of pilots just so that there are more underneath me and instead of being a junior FO on my equipment I can be a more senior FO on the same equipment flying the same or less hours for the same or less pay.

Gotta run...family calls...sorry if my family life doesn't meet with your approval on responding to the messages here.

That is not true. I had a bid in for it, and did not get it. I am not subject to a freeze. What you saw was previous north guys that had been awarded a pre-merger south base and/or aircraft on previous AE's being awarded the whale.

I too have a bid in for the whale & have not been awarded it.

I love your avatar. I've flown that plane before the cool mod. A mutual friend of ours sent me that pic. Long live the might bro!! Don't you miss our young hot flight attendants we used to work with??
