Speaking of D0, I just overheard the announcement in the airport that says you must be on board the plane 20 min early or your seat is subject to cancellation. Wasn't it 10 min prior just recently?

BG,

I realize that. I have always thought the D-0 emphasis was foolish. Especially when panicked gate agents close the door on paying customers and non-revs when we are still loading bags.

You are required to have the flaps and gear set by 1000'.....shouldn't that be your check?

No, this is my hey idiot check.

Totally 100% agree. But gotta put pressure on the agents so that the gate supervisors and station managers get their bonuses...

I know it is a safeguard, but how annoying is the runway, departure, first fix brief as you are taxiing about takeoff. That should be briefed prior and then called checked. I too have a lot of personal "hey idiot" checklist.:D

acl65pilot 06-24-2010 12:11 PM

I do not mind that one, as it is a last check prior to a RNAV departure to make sure if there was a runway change you have it in the box correctly.

I DO always check the flap position as we move in to position. Never can be to paranoid!

I understand the need to look at the history of the last few days and the need to look up any open MCO's from the logbook in the MEL but to look up write ups that have been cleared by MTC more than a few days before seems fairly ridiculous to me.

Denny

I just checked the FOM, the 10-day onboard requirement was changed at some point to 7-days, reflecting the FARs. I was trained from the start to review that period, never saw a Captain not check them. There have been too many times an item was deferred yet never signed off in the MEL. Additionally when we used to have maintenance at outstations on occasion they would sign off an item in SCEPTR but not in the logbook. The nDAL way of having a maintenance release signed by a mechanic has got to be a faster means.

Here at DAL is there is a mtc release on the top of the page you are good to go.

You hit the nail on the head. I am a FNW pilot who retired about 2 years ago using the PERP. My wife is a big fan of Delta and is Diamond FF status. She has been very frustrated with the on time performance for the last 6 months. She routinely has to book a minimum 2:30 hour connect time in ATL to ensure she makes her connections. I did a tally of her last 40 flights on DL.

On time 6
Late > 60 min 18
Late > 30 min 10
CNX for Maint 6

She says the crews are doing a great job with the pax keeping them informed, etc. but "its just getting worse." For the first time she is looking at other airlines

Those numbers are embarrassing. I hope you are enjoying the heck out of retirement. If you ever miss it I'll send you my schedule ;)
