LOL

You got a good point....

Why don't you ask why we ferried empty 777 from ATL to LHR for months to get fumigated, that makes 8-10,000 lbs. of extra gas seem like poppycock...

It's all fixed now that we don't have a Tuesday LAX-SYD flight ;-)

I think they load a baseline burn and use actual burn to get it down to the last few pounds, but it takes a few cycles of data to get it right...

I would expect to see razorsharp fuel caculations 2 months from now and you'll be complaining how tight the fuel calcs are ;-)

You giving you a hard time, my man...

Quick question. How do they get the fuel info or burns into the program. Are they getting arrival fuel out of the log book or is info coming form ACARS. Or are they down loading it form the aircraft somehow??? They could use postition report fuel I guess. JUst curious.

At fNWA(i know you are tired of seeing those letters) we had a program for employee ideas that would save the company money and if it worked the employee would get a bonus based on the savings the idea created. To the best of my recollection the compnay ended up saving in the millions from all the suggestions.

Hate to see that you have given up which to me means that there is not a good program in place for employee suggestions. Maybe that will change.
Keen, go look in icrew, look for "Suggestion Box" under like qualifications or something. It asks for your input and then three or four pages of a where's waldo like game to find the tiny box to insert a Y or N and hit OK, never in the same place mind you, and then you click on this icon to submit:

I've never heard anything back.

I kid you know. I've never had the "big idea" to pass a long to the company but I've had minor ideas that would have saved or made millions and I've always got a response back in full. Usually you'll find a "thanks so much, its a great idea, you're a smart guy, but we looked into it a while ago and for xyz reasons we can't or weren't able to." So the suggestion box is really just find the MAN or someone who works for the MAN and fire off your idea.

But a system like you suggest would be a good idea. I think Continental had a similiar program.

Outside of the fact that every email I've ever sent has been responded to, most of what I posted was not probably true except I will say my best idea concerned 744 fuel planning.

But they told me it had already been accepted and put into the next revision (at the time) and that they were greatful to [80ktsclamp] for his idea. Man, that just made me mad. Last time I ever shoot him a PM. So if you have questions about 744 fuel planning policy, ask 80!

Hey Keen, as to the Capt no show, they should've called. I think there is a small grace period and then somebody should've called the Captain and then called you guys. I think they do their best to treat us like adults but the line is drawn somewhere in there.

I got a call from scheduling or tracking not long ago to tell me the Captain will be there at go time. 1550 = 3:50, not 5:50. I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one whose pulled that stunt.

It just caught us by supprise that they did not know of the capt no showing. We weren't paying much attention to the time and realized it was time to head to the plane and where is the other capt??? Better call crew scheds and see. Well, that was the first they knew about it(1 hour before dept). Funny thing was we had a reserve guy right in the room with us on short call and let them know. They split the trip, put it out on GS and called a guy in on reseve days off to fill the trip getting us out almost 2 hours late??? Go figure. We were really scratching our heads when they had a SC guy right there. SC guy was scratching his head too?????? Way above our pay grade I guess.

All this talk of a delayed flight with lots of people reminded me, I walked by the gate DTW-NGO last week on a beautiful evening...except that flight was supposed to be around at around 3PM and it was showing 11PM as the gate agent was making an announcement to pax at the gate.

I quote, "You can take some time to get food nearby gate 56 until we know what is going to happen next."

Used to have a freighter that left JFK at 0030 am so I knew I had to go the day before to get there for the next day flt. Looked at the day of dept and took that as the day to get there. Pretty embarrassing upon checking in to find out you are there a day late. That was years ago before the communication explosion. Back then they did not bother calling you they just replaced you and put a note in you box. It happens.

That's really odd.

Okay, back in my Coex days I was commuting home EWR-ATL. It was a bad bad day in EWR and lucky for me Delta's evening flight wasn't leaving until 1130pm. So I got on it, one of say 10 people on the whole plane. Around 9 or 10pm they boarded us up. But while sitting in the plane the Captain made this announcement, "we don't know where the first officer is. The Company is trying to get in touch with him and I've been calling him. As soon as he gets here we'll depart."

Well, we waited and waited and sure enough at 1115pm here came the FO and we pushed. I thought to myself, why not give the little white lie: "Our First Officer has been at work longer than legally allowed, God bless him because if it wasn't for him getting this plane here we'd cancelled your flight, anyways, we have a new First Officer that has been called in from JFK and will be here in a few minutes."

I mean I know its a lie, but come on, when ATC says "Delta XXX Heavy, whats your speed?!?!!!" Do you really say "340" or do you say "280 as assigned." ? Ahhh... ER 3rd break final descent flash backs.
