What's the deal with pilots asking the forum for answers they have in their contract?
You can't enforce what you don't know.
When guys know what thye're talking about, and they start debating the fine point, then we'll reach a point where we actually can pick out mistakes. For far too long, I've relied on Delta to do the right thing, because I seldom could catch a problem, if at all. Trouble is, you're now adding about 5,000 guys that are trying to make this work, to the 7,000 guys that might be too complacent, throwing in fNWA schedulers AND new-hire schedulers that are not going to understand the contract, and are going to be "all about" covering the flights. That's a recipe for abuse. That abuse will mean less premium pay, and that means less money. For everyone. Especially me. And the kids. And that makes me unhappy. Leo's kids are set. Gerry's kids are doing fine. Richard's kids are not going to go hungry. So now, it's time for my kids.
RTFC. Then ask questions.

Actually, this isn't about moods, or "spirit of the forum". I don't have anything against groundstop, nor is his question unusual.
I think the merger is a good opportunity. It's a good opportunity for everyone to become subject matter experts, and make sure we know what we're talking about, today, and during Section 6. It's also an excellent opportunity for schedulers, as they mix, to try a different "culture", and exploit any ignorance on our part.
Add to that the fact we will be adding more newhires, and the fact you guys are having to spend most of your energy trying to figure out the new procedures, and the new books, then add the training events, and it's pretty clear our subject matter expertise on the contract will be a little... weak.
So, I tend to think that it's a good starting point, before you ask anyone else, to at least try to find the right section for yourself. It's the first step down the path of becoming a true, fire-breathing contract warrior.
Don't think of me as angry because I say "RTFC". Picture me, calm and focused, in the pose of the Lotus, repeatedly chanting "RTFC" as I channel my energy towards more knowledge, on the path to more money.
Hmmmmmm RTFC...

BTW, if there is a question... and while I don't recommend the DALPA forum in general... There is a very good CA section there, frequented by people ho actually can make the contract almost understandable.
I've been trying to pick-up a trip all week with no luck. I'm over ALV, so I can only pick up via green slip, so I'm pretty far down the list. Finally decided to just take out all my slips and just enjoy the time off.
Some of the Telex Headsets won't work on some of the 88s, I forgot what the reasoning was, but I had a maintenance guy explain it to me. I had the Telex 850s and they would work well on most planes, but every now and then I couldn't get them to function so I just switched out to my older Dave Clarks and haven't had an issue since.
You can use the Telex 750s, but just plan on switching out to the community headsets on occasion when the Telex aren't working. Just be careful not to get ear herpes, those community headsets get around.

New Airport Opens in Northwest Florida
Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, located near Panama City, FL, opened this past Sunday with flights operated by Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines. The airport, who claim it to be the first international airport built in the U.S. in more than a decade, offers service to Atlanta, Memphis, Baltimore, Houston-Hobby, Nashville and Orlando.
Cities with airline service from Northwest Florida
What's an airport so small doing with carriers so big? The St. Joe Co., the real estate developer that donated 4,000 acres for the airport, has offered to cover Southwest's operating losses for three years. Financial support, usually from smaller regional airports, has helped lure airlines in the past to "test-drive" the market. Could Northwest Florida's new airport be a victim to the Southwest Effect? Southwest will fly eight round-trip flights to Baltimore, Orlando, Houston-Hobby, and Nashville from Northwest Florida International.
Delta Air Lines, the world's largest airline, offers regional and mainline service to the airport, just as they do to many other smaller regional airports in Florida, like Daytona Beach International Airport and Melbourne. The carrier flies eleven round-trip flights out of Northwest Florida International to Atlanta (Delta Mainline, Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Comair) and Memphis (Pinnacle Airlines).
In addition to the seven gate 105,000 sq. feet terminal, an air cargo facility is planned for the airport.
"Could the timing be any worse?" said St. Joe CEO Britton Greene (source: Businessweek). A primary concern for the airport is the B.P. oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Florida beaches do not appear to be majorly affected by the spill. If oil blackens Florida's beaches, the state of Florida is expected to act promptly on the matter. "The beaches will be cleaned up and tourism will continue," said Greene.

That and as a station, they are hands down the most user-hostile I have encountered in Europe. Now I am only familiar with Barcelona, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris and Stuttgart....but nonetheless, I have had multiple issues with the staff doing goofy things there. Problem is that most of the folks that work there are contractors and sometimes REALLY follow the rules, sometimes not so much. The DAL employees there really aren't bad, but they are much better to the laying over crews than they are to nonrevs. I have been meaning to talk to the Germany base manager, but they are in Munich now.
I have gotten in the habit of coming into STR and leaving through FRA, it just makes things easier...and FRA gives you three sets of options if the system goes haywire the night before you leave.
RTFC = download CA 09-12.
"But FTB, how do I download 09-12?"
"Behold it is I."
"Yes. Great. It is you. But how do I download 09-12?"
"deltapilots.org, library, MEC, committees, contract awareness committee, scroll down to CA Bulletin 09-12 "Know Your Contract Complilation."
"Great, thanks, hey, where are the cheerleader pics?"
"You have me confused for someone else, ask Beer."

My favorite is do you know where the alternate weather minimum chart is? The chart that will tell you whether to add 400 & 1 or 200 & 1/2? The FOM will specifically tell you to go to the AM, if you go to the AM you'll be hard pressed to find it under Ops Specs or Tables & Codes, rather its in the Jeppesen introduction section on pagbe 129-130... but its not indexed.
How about this, what is a QRH for? To me, it is for nothing but emergency and abnormal checklists. But yet it is where you go to see how you should perform a runway/intersection change checklist, CB policy and deferred maintenance items, why? And why do I have to fish within a section for checklist deemed vital enough to memorize?
Seriously, there needs to be a revamp and its probably well underway given the improving quality of materials coming out of flight ops and the training department, so I won't give any advice other than to say: An FOM should be all of the Delta Air Lines related material including section 3 of the AM, Vol 1 should be about flight procedures and take a chunk out of the QRH and put in Vol 1 including abnormal/emergency profiles, and the QRH needs the revamp that the SLI's say it needs.
My guess, honestly, this will be corrected at some point.
