Not trying to start a fight, or change any ideas that might come out of you guys brainstorming, but theres a couple things to keep in mind youre negotiating against.

For one, we as pilots arent negotiating against other pilot groups and we cant sell our services collectively to United. We dont get the kind of business relationship with management the guys who sell us fuel get. We won't either. They are the employer, we are the employee. I hate to offer this up because it will cause some other conversations, but the only way to fix that relationship with management is to have one union, one seniority list, across all unions. Probably wildly unpopular but i dont like bringing up problems without a starting place for a solution (even if unrealistic).

This is the mind set I'm trying to shift. You have a lifetime contract, but you only get to adjust your pay every 4-6+ years. It's actually a many lifetimes contract but will apply for your entire career and everyone else's, now and in the future without end. I don't care that we can't sell our services elsewhere. This is exactly the justification for the change and my reason for determining a change is necessary.

You (1)can't realistically market your services once you are locked into your employer by seniority, and you (2)can't withdraw your service when the terms become amendable, and you (3)must work for existing wages for an undefined future period.

Again, (perpetual) indentured servitude.

Absolutely not. I want ZERO affiliation with United, and I’m sure they’re good peeps and their ALPA has strengths we could utilize. That being said, United is ran by a bunch of “The Zoo” REJECTS, starting with Kirby.

Scott wouldn’t know how to run a lemonade stand for profit, and don’t even get me started with AA”G” (if they ever dump APA)

3 new Hawaiian routes announced today. OGG-HNL will be interesting to operate nonstop.

Non starter. Not only would you never come remotely close to 50%+1 voting for that, I don't think it would even be legal. If it somehow did happen, the already low chance of being released to a 30 day cooling off period would drop to precisely 0.00% and the company would have unilateral leverage for life.

Very bad idea.

I see DTW/JFK-HNL and ATL-OGG. Where did you see OGG-HNL?

Sorry, I meant OGG to ATL. I suspect however there will be more than a few tech stops in HNL for fuel.

Which plane is going to gonna be doing these new routes?

the 767-300 I think. That’s just what I recall from press release. I haven’t flown it, no idea if it can do it

Really? That seems like it would rapidly wipe out the razor thin margins that hyper-competitive market offers.

It’s a 4000 mile trip off a 7000 foot runway. When I flew it to LAX in a widebody we needed a dry runway and 12 knots of headwind. I am told UAL flies it to EWR. It would be interesting to see their stats. I also suspect OGG has better yields than HNL.

L15 used to do OGG/ATL. Anyone remember if it ever had any restrictions?

Not our problem. Aeromexico will be flying the route on a 787.

If business interests ever get cabotage restrictions lifted thru the US Congress, your hyperbole will be truer faster than you can say "Ay, Caramba!"

ALPA is an "Association", many confuse it as a "union" because they have the ability to negotiate a CBA like a "union" does, but that is pretty much where the similarities between a "union" and "association" end.

So sorry to ask probably for the one hundredth time, but can new hires get a religious exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine? It’s hard to keep up with what everyone’s doing.

if you're already hired call pilot support and ask them.

If you're waiting for a class date any info given now is subject to change .

I am sure anything is possible but it really restricts what you can fly. I don’t see Delta wanting to deal with it but the law may not give them a choice.

Torpedoing your career before it begins is a bold strategy, let’s see if it pays off.

Or questioning a complete B. S. mandate for reasons that are none of our business. Matter of perspective?

Anyone know if the ATL gym below A-27 is open?

Thanks Scoop

You have to answer on the application if you are or will get vaccinated. There is no room there.

Open time trips for OE

Can the company pull trips from open time (not QPD time, just regular open time) and give them to a LCA so he can do OEs? Have seen several trips that were sitting in open time disappear and discovered they were given to a LCA to give OE, sometimes to a LCA at a different base with a deadhead attached..

Thanks in advance for any insight.

As others have noted the trip can be pulled. If you want the trip however make sure you have a request in for it. Those trips often pop back into open time. The company is required to do so if they have not placed it on a LCA’s line within a defined period.

Thank you all for the info and insights on the open time trip pulls for OE.

What are peoples thoughts on how this Russia/Ukraine is going to affect the airline industry?

Could escalate into WW3, could de-escalate into nothing. Oil could got to $200 a barrel. Could be looking at another lost decade. We'll see.

Can only be negative, just a matter of how bad.

If it is just Ukraine, sadly the rest of the world will move on rather quickly in my opinion.

If Putin really is determined to rebuild the old Soviet Union as Biden said: "He has much larger ambitions than Ukraine. He wants to, in fact, reestablish the former Soviet Union"
Then this is just act 1 and the real pain to Europe and the world is yet to come.
.
And keep an eye on China....never let a good crisis go to waste.

TheWagman 02-24-2022 12:36 PM

Schedule change on the first leg ? Leg to DFW was cancelled on the first only leg on day 1. DH to Lax to catch up with day 2 … any reroute pay due?

China would like to quickly shift the world focus from Wuhan to Kiev.

Wrong. China would like to shift the world focus from Kiev to Taiwan. Hookshot is spot on.

Why would China want focus on Taiwan? They seem to be slowly preparing to blockade it and just declare it a part of China someday soon. Seems they would love to have the world keep focus on Ukraine, Putin and anything else then what is going on in Taiwan. JMHO....

Short answer - probably not. We generally get reroute pay once we get extended past the original end time of the rotation. What happened to you looks like 23K and I think DFW was affected by a travel waiver so they could do it again under double 23K. No matter what, submit to the ACE app to have the scheduling committee see if it is indeed PWA compliant. Who knows, they might find something.

Its not a matter of “if” but “when” China makes it move on Taiwan.

Do they take advantage of the worlds attention focused on the Ukraine or do they wait and see how the West responds? Either way China will eventually make a play for Taiwan.

When is anybody's guess - China plays the long game.

Scoop - 15 years of China v Taiwan “exercises” complements of USN. 😱

Scoop 02-27-2022 10:03 AM

And now for something completely different

Anyone else have trouble “selecting” items with the IPad/IPhone on various company Apps? I have two recurring issues:

My I-Phone often will not allow me to enter a city code in the JS section of MiCrew.

Wtith myIdlisting on travelenet my IPad will not let me check the “I accept”. boxes.

Very frustrating and I have tried closing and reopening apps etc - Nada. Not sue if this an Apple touchscreen glitch or a App issue. Any thoughts? Anyone else experience this or am I just a hopeless Luddite?

Scoop

Bainite 02-27-2022 01:52 PM

I can't change any of the settings on widget weather. Everything outside of the settings tab seems to work fine.

China is playing the slow game, watching the US political/economic mess, just biding their time. They are slowly westernizing, but trying not to make the same mistakes we are making…
