Janus Manager Turns To U.S.; Cutting Back On Emerging Markets

A few years ago, Janus Overseas Fund (JAOSX) was heavily criticized when it became hugely overweight in emerging markets.

It got hit hard (more than a 52% loss in 2008) but bounced back strong, gaining 78% last year and has returned more than 20% so far this year.

As noted in this Bloomberg interview, manager Brent Lynn believes emerging markets aren’t the buy they once were and is turning back to developed countries, particularly the U.S., for his latest picks.

The fund’s top holdings include Ford (F), Delta Air Lines (DAL), Yahoo (YHOO) and Continental Airlines (CAL).

One stock he’s held onto through the bad times and good times is Bank of America (BAC).

But nearly a third of his portfolio remains in emerging markets. And it’s also worth noting that Lynn in past interviews has never been an especially big fan of European stocks on the whole. That helped last year and makes his portfolio a very different sort of mix than most.

(He still appears to be a big fan of India, by the way. Reliance Industries remains a top five name.)

If you want say 3 seperate groups of off days, do you bid them all on one line or list each group seperately? Do I start the bid with the days I really want and then add on to them in each subsequent bid line or bid all the days I want off and then cut them down in subsequent bid lines? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Denny

Denny, bid each group in priority order and separately. Also, you can bid a "range of dates" or specific dates. Seems to me that I've had more success bidding specific dates and not the range. I think the computer looks at the range and if there's a bad date in there it kicks the whole range out.

Are you allowed to say that on this thread??? Watch out for the Possi!

iaflyer and buzzpat,

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I should bid each group of days on a separate line. Thanks again guys!

Delta Flight Attendants' Union Rejection May Be Voided by U.S.

By John Hughes - Nov 5, 2010 10:49 AM CT Fri Nov 05 15:49:16 GMT 2010
Delta Air Lines Inc. flight attendants’ vote to reject union representation may be nullified by a U.S. labor board controlled by Obama administration appointees, according to a senator and an analyst.

The National Mediation Board, which in August ordered a new election for technicians who work on simulators for Delta, will take similar action after reviewing flight-attendant allegations of company interference in balloting, said Ray Neidl, an analyst at Maxim Group LLC in New York. “The deck is stacked in the union’s favor,” he said in an interview.

Democratic appointees of President Barack Obama gained a majority on the three-member board last year, and in May eased the rules for organizing elections in the airline industry. Given that stance, the panel will probably order a revote by the flight attendants, said Senator Johnny Isakson, a Georgia Republican.
“Nothing tells me they won’t do that,” Isakson said in an interview.

NMB: Delta Flight Attendants, you will continue to vote until you get your vote right. Thank you.

Let me guess, the vote will be 2 to 1 and the former head of the AFA who is now on the NMB will write the opinion that because Delta allowed FA's to wear red dresses, and red dresses equals communism, then Delta was saying if you vote for the AFA you are a communist, or something. And oh yes, DALPA pilots are scabs, especially the former NWA FA's that went a long with the merger and didn't strike, or something.

Okay, that's tongue in cheek and hearsay so nobody flame me because I don't want to hear anyone say "pilot to copilot, we're going down in flames!"

But wouldn't this end up in court though or can you not sue to the NMB?

It's not THE worst, but it's pretty bad.

Will be testing this with iCrew shortly...

Mozilla has released a new beta of Firefox 4 for Mobile. The new version resolves several long-standing problems with the Android port, finally making it viable for day-to-day use. The new version also brings a minor theming refresh that improves the application's look and feel.

In previous versions of Firefox for Android, the installed application used over 40MB of storage space and couldn't be permanently moved to the SD card in its entirety due to the manner in which Android loads native libraries. Mozilla has done a lot of work to address this issue, including making a custom dynamic linker that can load the native libraries directly from the compressed APK file. In the new beta, Firefox for Android requires only 17MB of storage capacity and can optionally run entirely from an SD card.

The browser's performance has also improved considerably. Page scrolling is consistently responsive, even while pages are loading—an area where it used to struggle in previous versions. The user interface is also smoother, with virtually no lag when navigating between the various settings panels. Features like the AwesomeBar work exceptionally well and no longer suffer from any sluggishness. Due to Mozilla's aggressive JavaScript optimization efforts, the browser's JavaScript performance is now fully competitive with that of Google's native Android browser. Firefox even comes out ahead in some benchmarks.

The user interface on Android has been refined and slimmed down a little bit. It still doesn't adopt the platform's native look and feel, but it doesn't look out of place. The theming choices that Mozilla has made in the new design are good and will likely be a good fit with the broad spectrum of custom Android styles that are used by various handset makers. The whole user experience feels a bit less cluttered.

Just keep remembering this when you hear some guys here trying to lower everyone's expectations for significant improvements...2 years from now!
