Nope we complained too much.

I liked it...with the possible exception of the toothless tattooed Cockneys. ;)

According to the hotel committee, the long MCO layover was the most complained about in the system. It was a nice place, just kind of isolated with not much around it. Now, we have a crappy place, kind of isolated, with not much around it.

You mean the Orena Sports Bar didn't just scream five star?

Rumor has it yesterday at DTW's base visit it was mentioned that part of the reason the past AE was delayed was because the proposed FTDT rules will effect it. Not sure how(especially since I'd think there would be an implementation period) but take it FWIW.

Not sure I like the sound of that. I had heard this AE was supposed to be the beginning phase of top heavy fat staffing for widebodies, but the proposed rules would likely do nothing but decrease widebody relief FO postions (no, not all, but some) while barely, if at all, increasing narrowbody positions...more so at regulation redline regionals and far, far less at legacies with at least some work rules in their PWA's which would already comply with many or even most of the new proposals.

Maybe the ATA is getting some feedback from their lobbyist henchmen that the F&DT regs are going to be more management friendly than we seem to think they will be.

I actually love that place... right up my alley. Good wings, cheap draft beer, plenty of smoke. I prefer my smoke second-hand.

I love it too. Great wings, Eric the bartender (and furloughed AirWisco dude) is awesome, second hand smoke and the occasional fight over the pool tables. I'll miss it.

In 2004 Delta pilot costs were about 2.3 billion a year on 15 to 16 billion in total expenses. The math is pretty easy. Post merger today with the latest pay increases I understand we are around 2.5 billion (larger group, much lower pay) today with the airlines total expenses in the 27 billion range.
We deserve much higher pay and benefits. To try and state that pilot costs are a minimal expense to operate the airlines is however not the case.

What are the total crew costs (pilot and FAs) as a percentage and how does it compare to the other carriers?

The new rules would actually increase the FO's positions on the 7ER. Yes you can fly more hours before you have to carry the relief FO but the duty day limits if you are not acclimated are to short to allow that. Most of the current two man trips out of JFK will have to go to 3 pilots. The only way the company could avoid it would be to make them 4 day trips instead of 3. This might meet the acclimatization requirement but the increase in 1 for 3.5 credit would probably keep the company from going that route.
Regardless however I don't think this has anything to do with the new rest rules. This bid is to cover flying this summer long before the new rest rules will go into effect. Its not likely the company will even know what they will end up being by summer.

I am not sure what relevance the flight attendants have to pilot crew costs. There are several websites that compare pilot costs between airlines. I looked at one a few months ago. It looked like we are in the middle of the pack. Most of the data does not reflect the last two pay raises at Delta.

I agree with you on this. I was passing on what I heard....which I think is something that somewhat thought they heard, but didn't hear. Clear as mud? :D

Yep, the new FTDT Rigs (FAR 117) will have a three year implementation period. There is no way an airline is going to staff for something that has not been finalized.
