Default Help! can they do this?

I'm new to this line-holder thing, but I just got a call from crew tracking advising me of a reroute that flies me into my day off. There are no IROPS going on other than a delayed DH. Can they do that? They never did this to me as a reserve and I'm not happy about it as a line-holder. Any contract geniuses on here to shed some light? Suggestions?

I don't know if they can do it or not. Personally, I would do it no questions asked, then call in sick for my next trip. It is bull though especially if you have something planned with your family.

China Eastern examining scheduled Honolulu service
March 4, 2011

Future SkyTeam member China Eastern has petitioned the Chinese government to begin regularly scheduled nonstop service from China to Honolulu, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

China Eastern recently operated three charter flights from China to Honolulu during the Chinese New Year holidays that were sold out in just 14 days, according to the story.

Michael Merner, a Hawaii Tourism official said, “Hawaii is outperforming all other major overseas destinations in the China market.” Merner added there was a 57% uptick in Chinese travel to Hawaii last year as a result of easier visa processing for Chinese citizens.

Pending Chinese government approval, China Eastern would also have to secure permission from the U.S. Department of Transportation, according to the article.
This is a huge growing market we should have jumped on!

It could be a downline sick call.

If you are domestic and you are getting back to base more than 4 hours later than your original rotation, welcome to Reroute Pay (double).

If you are international you have to be back more than 30 hours late.

Note the 4 and 30 late refer to release time, not credit or block hours flown.

Thanks guys. That's what I was afraid of. So I get home 14 hours late on a day off and get double pay on a 1:20 deadhead. Bummer. And there's no daily minimum on a day with only a DH right? This is what happens every time I try to learn the contract: I don't like what I find!

One duty period is allowed. I believe you will receive 1.5 pay for your last two duty periods. You might call reroute and ask if the additional flights had ever been in open time. If so that's kind of shady because you should be way way down on the list to be assigned the flights.

This is a HUGE problem in our contract! Please call your reps to pressure them to have this changed!!!!!!

There should be a large finical repercussion for the company extending a line holder. Right now it is cheaper for the company to extend us rather than put the trip in open time and give out green slips and assignments. Not to mention how this affects the pilots life. I had a rotation extension a few months ago in which I was not notified until 2300 while in flight that I would not be returning home. This was too late for me to make arrangements and changes to my home schedule. The result was a loss of $375. To add insult to injury my reroute pay was denied and my rotation pay only increased 1 hour and 35 minutes. They said it was outside the companies control and that therefore not eligible for reroute pay.

That's messed up. You're right, this definitely needs to be fixed. Thanks for your insight.

Why would you do it that way? IS that your way of sticking it to the man?
