NOBODY heard about it ahead of time. It was announced during a speech at a Leadership meeting in Atlanta with about 1500 people in atendance. No forewarning whatsoever. Even the chief pilots were caught off guard.

From an article by the Associated Press this morning:

"Delta and American have also said they will scale back their capacity growth plans this year."

I haven't found supporting info anywhere (though I haven't looked very hard).

These guys seem to be doing OK... (BTW, market cap is 50% that of AMR).

SkyWest Inc. /quotes/comstock/15*!skyw/quotes/nls/skyw (SKYW 17.27, +0.87, +5.31%) was upgraded to buy from hold at Deutsche Bank because of better-than-expected revenue growth due to several successful fare hikes.

That choice saved our bacon in a down economy and into BK when other carriers were saddled with huge debt from new aircraft.

Don't ever forget NWA was drowning in LBO debt. That is the reason we refurbished the DC-9's. Cheechi and Wilson came in and sucked ALL the cash out of the corporation. Like Gary Wilson said, "debt is your friend."
