Weed,
Also, there is a good discussion of out of base white slips on the DALPA site, under scheduling. Thanks for the info |

I think once the BOS/DCA area commuters figure out how easy JFK is to get to (via the shuttle) and what the flying is like, that's where they'll commute to. I mean, there are flights to LGA every half hour with plenty of open seats!

It was never going to be that bad.
This has been known as fact for at least six to eight moths by flt ops. They planned for it. Perps are good, and I am sure they will make it good enough to take, but not good enough that they will be excited about it. |

I hate to show my ignorance, but "perps?" I'm glad to hear that they're good. I just don't know what they are.

Because when those pilots can bid anything they can hold after being displaced, I can kiss ATL, LAX, and SLC goodbye for a long time. The assimilation will be nearly complete- I'll have my nice new NWA uniform complete with red widget, flying my new "best practices" NWA procedures in my NWA airplane out of my new NWA base (detoilet), for an airline run by former NWA executives! I can't wait, my fourth airline in 5 years!

Shuttle to JFK? I thought the Shuttle flights were in and out of LGA. Or, are you saying there is a bus shuttle between the two airports?
It only costs $18 and 25 minutes for a cab between the airports or $13 airport bus (which can be as low as $6 if you buy tickets downtown in NYC with your id). Also, often there is someone to split the cab with on the plane, so the cost is low. |

No, you're right - the shuttle goes DCA-LGA or BOS-LGA but a lot of people take it even though there are DCA-JFK and BOS-JFK flights. The DCA/BOS-LGA shuttle is just so frequent, there are always open seats and if you miss the one you want, there is another one right behind it.

I think DTW and MSP to a lesser extent are about to empty out.
DTW at one point had 80% commuters. A lot of them commute from Florida and the East Coast. I can't see those guys flying over Atlanta and driving past New York to get on an airplant to get to work in DTW. Those who commute to MSP, I think are majority West Coasters who can't hold SEA. I can't imagine them passing SLT or driving past LAX to get to the frozen tundra. As far as aircraft go, I think pay and size will rule supreme in both bases. Contrarty to popular belief back pre-SLI days, a lot of our new hires had strong ties to MSP, so I think they will try to stay or get there at all cost. So, the junior positions will be a little more senior in MSP, if that makes sense. 747-400 B positions have always been just as senior or more senior than DC-9 A and 320 A positons and I don't expect that to change. But, the real question is where the company will put the airplanes and where they will fly? That will determine who bids what and when. What do you see on that end? |
I just saw ACL65pilot's message about ATL getting bigger and some other bases getting smaller.
I can not say how much I think this is a huge mistake for Delta. Atlanta concourses are way too small and extremely congested. Additionally, when you are late coming into the airport, don't expect to arrive to the gate anytime soon because they will put you on runway 10/28 and it will take you 10-20 minutes to cross two congested runways. Then to throw salt on the wound, your gate is blocked or the ramp is too congested for you to even get there. Seriously, Atlanta is a mess operationally. I wish RA and the other managers would realize this. Passengers, mostly their fault, book connections that are too close, but, the mighty Delta.com site sure lets them do it without any warnings. But the kicker is, with loads being high, when you cancel oversold flights, people suddenly are screwed and you just caused their worst nightmare ... staying in Atlanta. Listen, as aircrew, I'm having to hoof it from gate to gate in minimum time. Why are we doing this to the passengers? /rant |
