It would be nice, but then again the 777 nonstop from LAX to Alice Springs may be a bit light on the loads 6 months of the year..... Some of the codeshares may help us out a lot. That is of course if BOTH airlines get to fly to each other's country and take advantage of each other's feed within that other country. But, when only one side does it, I want that to be our airline.
Good deal also for the VA 737 drivers as they will get a boost from additional into connections down under.
I just wish all 737 drivers benefiting from this program stateside were Delta pilots...
Next up VirginAtlantic feeding Alaska jets via Delta/VAt codeshare/JV
Cheers

So while some have tried to paint C2K as a scope sale for pay, we actually tightened up scope tremendously over the previous language while also getting pay raises. It may not have been tightened as much as some would like, but to characterize it as a trade of scope for pay is just wrong.
Similarly, we reduced scope limits in the JCBA during our merger. We all received increases in pay rates and in retirement contributions and at the same time we tightened the scope restrictions where the final JCBA was tighter than the sum of the two parts from our original contracts.
I don't see how this issue with a negotiating committee gets spun into a discussion about some people wanting to ruin scope. This seems to me just a smear campaign. We don't like how democracy is working, so let's create some personal attacks. If you look at the last Council 20 update, it talks about how the agenda of the Negotiating Committee is set by the MEC and not by the committee members. This is the accurate description. The makeup of the committee does not set direction, they merely are the people who execute the direction.
The policy manual was set to give the MEC guidance on how to conduct their business. It is both proper and to the letter of the guidance that they review their team leading up to the negotiations. Maybe the review will show that they have the right team and they will waive the election. Maybe the review will show that they want to make a change. I don't know, I haven't spoken with my reps and I have no idea what the reps feelings are. In a democracy, you elect a rep, you give your input to your reps, along with thousands of other pilots, and then they set that direction. Sometimes you win elections and sometimes you lose. How you handling losing shows more about a person than how you handle winning. If your opinion doesn't carry the day, do you try to blow up the system or do you support the system even though it didn't go your way.
Teamwork means something. You can't be a Terrell Owens "team" player. He supports the team as long as they throw the ball to him, as long as he gets to make the touchdown catch, and as long as he is the famous star. Somebody else makes a touchdown, now it's time to pout and throw a fit.
There was a merger committee election. Some didn't like the outcome and used their democratic tools to try to change it. Was that a conspiracy, was that underhanded, was that a steam roller? No, they exercised their rights. There may or may not be a negotiating committee election, I have absolutely no idea. I don't care. The MEC has their democratic rights to pick the people who work for them and there is nothing wrong with them exercising their rights. Whomever, the MEC picks, I will support their efforts to get us more money, more scope, more of everything. That is being part of a team.
I have supported the current negotiators in their efforts and will support the future team whether it changes or not. That is what real teamwork is about.
Not to change the subject but..................Greaaaaat!
We get home about 8pm from a wedding ceremony of a young friend of ours and find our house was broken into.
Fortunately it doesn't look like anything of great value was taken. Looks like just some of my wifes cheap, everyday ear rings and the bottom of the jewelry box (they left the top). It was probably the most expensive item. I got it for her over in Korea 25 years ago. Fortunately she keeps her good stuff in a lockable trunk that was her Dad's in WWII. I think we might have disturbed them when we came back by openning the garage door. I think they heard it and hightailed it down the stairs and out a different basement door than the one they crowbarred to get in. Sigh, time to get a security system I guess.

Oh yeah, they took the pillow case off my pillow to haul away what little they took. I can't believe they didn't take DVD's, game consoles etc that were laying about.

Forget everything juice is on me in NRT! I agree with Slow, nothing like what you're going through, but I had a laptop stolen going through security once and that sick to your stomach feeling does go away in time....

I thought that was the major reason people gave for opposing the DPA right now. We didn't want to have change and disarray so close to section 6 talks. But now were going to change negotiators and that's OK?
I agree that changing these committee members should normally be a routine matter and no big deal, but this seems different. This looks like some sort of "showdown" over direction and philosophy. Is that the case?
Would any insiders care to explain for us rank and file types what is really going on here?
Is this about scope? Do we have a hardline faction vs. a more "flexible" group on the MEC?
Maybe the line pilots would like to provide some input if this is a major turning point in our approach to the future.
Denny,
I was very sorry to hear of your experience. Please let me know if your forum community can do anything for you.
I don't know if you've been a burglary victim before. I have (unfortunately several times in different cities). Insurance generally covers financial losses up to your deductible, but the part that wasn't covered for me was the change in my attitude. Each time took me several months to "trust" again, and it really affected my wife's attitude when it was time for me to leave on a trip. Everyone is different, but you guys might want to talk that scenario through a few days before your next one.
Denny Crane would have knee-capped them. He has great gun control.

Thanks Slow. No, we've never been a burglary victim before but we have experience theft before. It ended up being kind of a funny story except for the theft. A "friend" of our older sons stayed with us for a few days and then he disappeared early one morning with about 2500 dollars worth of video game consoles, video games, and DVD's. About a month later another real friend of my son saw him walking around and beat the crap out of him!!
We will definitely talk about it and come up with a plan. Fortunately I have vacation the next couple of weeks.
Yeah the real Denny Crane would have but I only play him online!
I do have my conceal/carry permit. Maybe I'll actually start using it!!Thanks again.

Nope... you're right. ALPA has figured out the best way to do EVERYTHING, so who in the hell am I to try to think of another way to do anything? But of course DAL would go out and buy a 767 that they cannot fill.. requires MORE flight attendants... and everything just to screw the pilots... but typically, when anyone questions the way the "best" does things, float the furlough argument, and that will get everyone back in line.
I'm not even gonna threaten ALPA with doing anything if they get this stuff wrong, because I know that is impossible since they have the best lawyers, "volunteers" and negotiators there are. Besides, when the time comes, it will be too late. So we are stuck with the "best" association there is... (And before you say it, no.. I have not sent in a card... yet) Your arguments are always beyond reproach, you know exactly what 12,000 guys want... truly an amazing organization and I am lucky to be able to pay to be a member. That is why they are so good at all of this. I will go back to my coloring books and speak no more of this. Now PG, get your brainiacs to fix my f$@*^# retirement... oops.. too late.
I hope the whale pays $600/hour, because that is the only way anybody else is gonna make any money... Good luck Carl.

I (think I) agree with you. I'm cynically optimistic with our current union. But I swear, If the reps come to us, the membership, with anything less than an opener of approximately a 50% raise, PLUS improvements in scope, I'm sending in my card to DPA, and getting vocal WRT supporting same. If the negotiating strategy is 15-25% payraise, that is merely a continuance of a bankruptcy contract. Our union had better get this right, the first time. By all accounts, anybody on this property >15 years (12 year payscale), captain or Jr wide-body copilot, has given the company approximately 300K in wages over the last 6 years. Enough of bankruptcy wages & contracts.

Your questions were already answered on the DALPA forum, and I believe you've logged on since it was posted. No and No.
Line pilots should always provide input to their elected reps. That's how the system works....12,000 + inputs into a collective decision made by the elected representatives. Then the pilot group gets to vote.
Oh man, so sorry to hear! Glad they heard the garage door open and took off vs you walking in on them.

Thanks Ferd. I'm kind of thinking it might have been one or two teenage girls with a crowbar. Both the cop and I were wondering why the didn't just break the glass in the door (it's got an almost full length glass panel in it). It had to take them awhile to get in judging by the damage to the door. Then it seems like they made a beeline for my wifes stuff and bypassed much more lucrative booty! Some of her dresser drawers were open along with a drawer on her nightstand and makeup table. The only things we can find missing I have mentioned before. Heck, this netbook I'm typing from was sitting on the kitchen counter!!!
It seems to me this breakin was VERY unorganized which leads me to believe it was a couple of kids. I'm just shocked at the stuff they didn't take that was laying around. They are going to be very disappointed with the value if they try to fence anything!!
One of these days I'll get over to NRT when you are there!
