How often does rubber dog crap call you as you're finally rounding the corner for takeoff for a wheels up time and say a lap child is not under 2 so what do you want to do because the flight is full?

In 1985 rubber dog crap might have been rubber dog crap but in 2011...

How many $20 envelopes can you fit in an airplane versus $200 passenger who wants to take five bags with them for free with all the rights of a refundable ticket?

The local billionaire, Carl Linder, bought it back in the late '80s. DAL had just established the hub and he didn't like paying NYC lease rates so he moved the company there. Unfortunately he died a couple of months ago but the move to relocate started well before that. I grew up in CVG (sister actually dated Linder's nephew for a few years, sadly young love never matured) and was always astounded by how negative the media portrayed DAL. Admittedly it had the highest airfares in the country, but you were able to go to over 100 destinations, 5 of them to Europe at the peak for a town of 1.5 million. Well, they are getting what they wanted. We'll see if it pans out. Proctor & Gamble, Kroger, Federated/Macy's Department Stores, 5/3 Bank, Chiquita, GE Jet Engines and a host of other companies call it home. There is a lot of purchasing power potentially for someone.

Exactly. Had a class in Air Cargo in college. The professor used the example that it was better to ship BIC pens by air ($1 apiece then) than coal by the ton.

Also, I was told by FEDEX buddy that if they can fill the belly of a 727 with envelopes then everything on the main deck was profit. But then again, there is no money cargo.

That's why former Delta pilots were able to retire and go out and start a 747 cargo company.

If there is no money in cargo... does that mean there is money in passengers?
