Hey I thought there was no money in cargo? There is a brand new British Airways cargo 747-800 in the ATL.

Careful parking it in ATL, if its anything like marta and the mall someone might steal the catalytic converter or battery while it's parked here.

There isn't money in cargo. It's all overnight packages, remember? ;)

Random thoughts ...

With the Continental/United merger wrapping up soon, do you think DAL we be at a disadvantage once their synergies realize? I ask because they have an impressive wide body fleet, and most of their hubs are located at airports with large O&D demand.

DAL only has ATL and NYC with large O&E. I don't consider LAX because it seems our company doesn't want to compete there ... or at least it is giving it away to Alaska. Our other hubs don't make it in the top ten of O&D

We chased SWA out of SLC but they went to DEN and have set up an impressive hub there. Why didn't our management see the potential in DEN like SWA did?

U-Cal is already showing impressive numbers even without the synergies to come. I think we are already sucking hind teet and it will only get worse. We got some work to do, and our WB fleet is seriously sub-par to theirs. Hoping that changes in the very near future. The landscape could really change with AMR trying to figure out it's future.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all!

There is no doubt they will be a tough competitor. But I think they still have a long way to go on merging their labor groups. Until then, they won't be able to truly recognize all the synergies.

As someone previously said...the UCAL is already kicking our butt financially, without the merged groups.

It is a huge concern for anyone here at DAL. The fact we have not ordered any wide bodies and we seem to be in love with JV's and code share is not a good omen. This management I hope has some secret strategy besides outsourcing. DALPA can only do some much but they are on the bubble about making dramatic changes about protecting jobs.

I still wonder about the crazy settlement on the 787 order from NWA. Why defer til 2020 without some secret deal for slots when we want and need jets, one can hope I guess that this is the case........

Please this is not an DALPA v DPA post.... DPA has proved squat but promise a lot. DALPA has under performed as far as legal protections and is on notice. But no union can tell management how to run an airline only provide contractual barriers..... SO back to the above, I wonder what DAL is going to do, I dont think nor feel they are going to sit back....

I agree with you FIIGMO. I was browsing through the different airlines on AirlinePilotCentral and noticed our hubs and their hubs. It seems DAL's hubs are very much inferior to the new UAL in terms of O&D, and AMR's. I have always been of the school of thought that if your hub isn't strong in O&D, it isn't going to last as a hub or it is very costly. Think CVG.

You brought up the 787 and that is another area where if they acquire lots of them first, they will have a huge advantage.

One thing that chaps me is the lack of world wide internet. Gogo is cool, but it sucks that you can't use it on an international flight. Southwest, who at the time didn't fly international, went with a satellite based system.

According to APC, UAL upgraded all of their wide bodies to lay flat seats as well.

I thought DAL was leading, but now I think we are just keeping our head above water.

I wonder if BA knows they own a 800? They are not listed as owning one and don't have any on order.
