If they pay for my healthcare I'd take some time off. That's the biggest problem for me. I can implement a serious budget cut, it's the medical care that's the problem.

I know. A bunch of the non-pilot DGS guys just came back in 07 off their furlough.
There will probably be some openings like you mentioned if we do get to this.

There are management jobs out there, we saw that letter go out that they needed people.

Do I apply now, or wait... apply now... or wait... apply now... or wait.

Sucks waiting to determine what you should've done.

They can bring the ALV down to 72 and fly everyone at 65. That would add a line for every seven to 10 pilots. The can offer SIL, which work great but with being 1000+ fat and 450 or so they say for next spring, that would only go so far.

What is a best "educated" guess for how many furloughs if nobody bites at the PERP?

Thanks,

Best guess = 0
Next Best Guess = 300 to 500

Economically we are seeing conditions worse than post 9/11. Fortunately the 2 man jets and outsourcing will not hit us as hard this time.

Market indicators seem to be telling us that the dead cat's bounce has reached its apogee and has begun re-entry. I think the best forward looking indicator for Delta can be seen in the jobs reports. People will fly when they have work and incomes. Bosses will fly to supervise that work.

I would love to see the Best guess. That said. That AWST article shows a major slump in demand to two of our three key continents. That is going to take some time go get back.

I hope to God we do not see 500:eek:

Here is to preparing for the worst hoping for the best!

There will be some PERPS. Maybe enough to make it zero sum to furlough. They will know that July 10th.

Apply. But my guess is that if they furlough, most of the Duty Pilot positions will be filled by those guys.

You said Duty. tee hee.

Is there any pressure to have management reduce the number of regional flights between city pairs and let our "mainline" aircraft fly the reduced legs - thus reducing/eliminating the need for fuloughs? Seems if you swapped 2-3 RJ flights for 1-2 MD-88's that might help our pilots stay working if this "downturn" gets any larger!? Sorry if I've completely overlooked the obvious contract/scope/alignment of the planets clauses!?...
