In related news, DALPA is rumored to be "actively engaging" the company in an effort to craft a code share agreement that grossly favors Qatar and further erodes Delta pilots' futures.

I'm applying. Looking for a place with career advancement opportunities--rather than the extended and indefinite stagnation here. Thanks again, DALPA.

And that's just domestic. Or maybe the MBA Factories are spitting out grads on par with the legions of basket weaver majors with double minors in self esteem and feelings because when you look at the raw numbers of their little outsource experiment over the last decade and a half, not even Charlie Sheen would call it winning. Even David Hasslehoff eating the cheeseburger off the floor while his crying daughter taped him and put it on the internets would be like "daymn doods, that's sad." 1. You build your company with good employees (mainline pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, gate agents, et al). http://totalfratmove.com/wp-content/...terschmidt.jpg You hire this guy when he is young. He's your first employee. You build the company together. You love him. You throw around the word family. You pay generously as soon as the money is available. Eventually, he gets old. Technology passes him by and he doesn't know it. He talks about "the way it used to be" and complains about how complicated his VCR was and how hard it is to buy movies on VHS tape now. He knows there is "DVD" fad out there and he refuses to do it. By the way, he wants more money because his lifestyle ain't cheap. So offer your older pilot... I mean employee... some more money if he doesn't mind giving up some work he doesn't want to do anyways. He says sure. Eventually, you can have him just give up work and you don't have to give him a raise. 3. Get InternsAnd you hire Coma...this guy... http://0.tqn.com/d/animatedtv/1/0/-/..._remote_72.jpg for half of what you were paying the old guy. He's got a decent track record, somewhat reliable, can handle a VCR and knows they're out of date and can somewhat hook up a DVD player to the flat screen. Glad to have the work, more money and stability than he had before. Just not ready for the big stage, content where he is. Problem is, he gets expensive as he gets older. So scratch this business model it's not going to work and you're stuck with this guy until you try to drive him out. This is the way to go as soon as possible. Cheap. Do anything. May work for less than it costs him to live. Might go bankrupt. As he gets older and out of his parents basement he is going to need more money. 4. Use ForeignersDON'T GIVE IT TO HIM! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_cT5kHYB7kL...00/a+chris.jpg He'll eventually leave and you can hire a new intern. Try to set up the pay to be 10 years max, you want him gone before he gets married and settles in and really can't afford life on what you pay. If they want longer or more money, ask for fuel risk sharing... I mean risk sharing, and as long as he decides to stay with you buy have a second job to afford it, it's a win. Or get him to go bankrupt and fire him. To be continued... |

4. Use Foreigners
This guy, I know it sounds funny, but he'll do it better and knows how to hide money. 5. Warninghttp://cdn0.hark.com/images/000/001/...2/original.jpg Don't hire this kid: http://dontfierme.files.wordpress.co...tewie_evil.jpg Because Bedfo... this guy may use money from you to build his side business and compete against you. He may screw it up, but the next guy in Salt Lak... next guy may learn lessons from the previous guy and do it better. |
Newsflash, Ray LaHood figured something out today ... old ladies can't drive. The number one causal connection to pedal misapplication accidents is being a postmenopausal woman.:
"Possible explanations might include greater exposure by women where these crashes occur most often (parking lots); a poorer "fit" in their cars due to shorter stature, which may increase the likelihood of a pedal application error; or a disproportionately high rate of one or more functional deficits that contribute to pedal errors, such as neuropathy." |

Genius. Guys always comparing rasm, casm, etc. The operation makes money, and increases the companies value or it doesn't. In many of these cases the pilots could have been flying for free on stolen jet-a and it still would have been a net loss to the company. You have to look at the whole picture including customer loyalty, quality control, and future value. Takes more than a actuarial degree and a free Tuesday night.
I'd like to see the total write downs on all things RJ from 2002-2012. But there obviously is. And they have it. It's in the eye of the beholder on what the goal is but my bet is the goal is to hold down labor costs so they use whipsawing mechanisms. But I bet it's gotten out of balance and they're doing what they can to park stuff and get back to whipsawing being worthwhile. |
