The Airbus is much more integrated, automated, easier to fly, and roomier with a table & 2 jumpseats up front. The APU cools the aircraft immediately. The systems are a "lights out" philosophy, so if you don't see a light illuminated, then the system is working properly. You can fly the Airbus as manual as desired, just need to fight complacency.

Anybody know what the parts commonality is with a MD90 and 717? Could you live happily with a fleet of 160+ MD90s and MD95s?

Maybe it's like buying a truck and going ahead and getting a 4x4 even though the only time it will ever go off road will be into the flowerbed. It just is worth having in case you want to one day use it off road or it snows.
