Confirm which airplanes they have in SEA-73,7er and 330 correct? How many pilots in the SEA base? How long until I can hold it?Trying to figure out what would be best for me and my family to get west. Thanks!
As it stands now the 73n is the most junior airplane in SEA. Quite recently the company added (I think) 50 7ER spots to MSP which was quite a shock, so I wouldn't completely discount that plane either. The 330 will likely stay senior for a long time.

2. You are released from you current seat lock when bidding into a new category - for example SEA 73N. I don't know your timing, but you might be too late if you are not in indoc yet. Perhaps if there is another bid very quickly you may qualify.
3. Finally and probably your best shot is bid the aircraft that are out west in inverse seniority order:
For LAX and SEA try for the 737 first and the 7ER second. Put in a standing bid for both and hope for the best. I mentor guys who have made it out west in less than a year via this method.

Normally you will get out west quicker on the 737 vice the 7ER so you have to decide if you would rather get out west as quick as possible(737) but then require another training to get the ER.

For SLC do the same but bid the 320 wherever it falls in inverse seniority wise.

This bid will shed a lot of light on pent up west coast demand with the new SEA base so the picture will be a lot clearer in two weeks.

Good Luck Scoop
Turbine Driver, I happened to be reading the "Delta bases" thread yesterday trying to find the answer to this question. I hope it helps. I recommend taking a look at that thread if you haven't already. I found it very helpful.

How much longer will these 7ER-centric class drops continue?

The 7er slots will decline by June. They were to cover summer flying. They will return again next winter. 7er block hours peak at 35% above the winter hours in the summer. Makes it hard to staff for the company.

What's the desert parking timeline like? Not beginning in earnest until after 2016?

7ER story has been interesting. Airframe count going down but block hours remain stable. NYC Port Authority is apparently going to allow West Coast flights at LGA. That'll add to the block hours.

It's been ongoing just not at the rate originally planned. If LGA opens up to transcons I suspect they will keep a few more. It will be the aircraft of choice on those flights.

According to iCrew, the 7ER is junior in SEA (12069). 73N is 11811. Both will be tricky to get to quickly, though. Not sure a newhire will get the AE into the 73, then ALL those pilots will be seat locked for years (that's a big deal if you're trying to get in there). The consensus, too, is that the ER hiring will soon come to a halt.

You might want to focus on a plane/base that is the best commute initially. No sense in picking a SEA plane while living with a NYC/ATL commute. Or consider the other west bases -- LAX 73N plug is 12240 and SLC 320 is 12121 (and they are not new categories like the Sea 73N). 320 hiring will be slow thru the fall, then it will pick up for the 321 deliveries next year.

I thought the 7ERs on the last AE was for summer staffing also, but a lot of the conversions aren't until Sep/Oct. Now I'm not so sure.

The last AE shows JR SEA 73 is 124xx and ER is 123xx. That's pretty dang jr. LAX 717 is 125xx.
