Not a career worth pursuing?

I'm still voting against it and hope it is shot down. Too many bad, unnecessary provisions.

But it is still a career worth pursuing.

We also look at the past with rose colored glasses but it wasn't all wonderful all the time then either.

Great for the pilots at the end of their 30 yr career. Yes. I got mine (26 yrs w DAL) and can coast out the remaining yrs at a great QOL. What I'm talking about is how over the last 20 yrs (POS 96 and on, except for contract 2000, when ALPA actually NEGOTIATED and got us a good contract) the quality of life aspects of our contracts have gotten worse and worse and we work harder and harder for less and less money (overall, adjusted for inflation). We make some incremental gains and the next economic crisis drops us further down then the incremental gains...gained. Overall, we keep dropping, in terms of pay and quality of life. We used to use say talk about how much a 727capt made in the 80's and how adjusted for inflation we were so far below that in the 90's. We never got back up to that bar. Now we use a lower one, 2004. We are trying to get back up to that one and now, finally we are there- except for inflation. Soon that bar will fall by the wayside. And so on. Meanwhile, QOL items are dropping by the wayside and I didn't see any effort to reclaim those in this TA. Just concessions. What about the week of vacation we lost in bankruptcy, 1 for 2, touching trips vacation, the old reserve system, PBS, SLI, the list goes on and on. And so- here we are in a time of record profits, giving back 6B to the the share holders and ALPA signs a TA that, according to credit suisse, actually saves the company money. What conclusion do you draw for the big picture of someone trying to decide if this is a career worth pursuing? Middle East carriers making inroads, Norwegian Air, Open skies, Scope failures, etc.- these threats aren't going away. I wasn't optimistic about the future of this career before seeing POS TA15, but again, if this passes, it is the death knell of this career as one worth pursuing. We have to recapture most of the QOL items we lost in POS 96 and bankruptcy NOW. We won't get it in 3 years when we are in the next recession.

You're doing a damn fine job on here, Bender. Making us proud. RA appreciates it too. Told me so in our update call last night.

Keep up the good work, son!

OK 80kts, zip this guy. Not that I have any respect for MD but this is out of hand.

Lots of discussion here and elsewhere is ignoring inflation. It's easy to go here and ask yourself if it might actually be relevant to EVERY TA discussion:

(Uses CPI data from 1913 through 2014)

"Try the ignore feature."

A truly excellent suggestion!

Goodbye Bender T.

The union says that our sick calls have gone up by 30% according to the company. The unions response was to give them whatever they wanted.

I wonder if the union even though to say " ok the sick calls are up 30%, thats great, that means we have 30% fewer pilots going to work sick.

Even our union assumes they are all sick abusers! Actually, its very probable that our sick policy is keeping pilots who ARE sick out of the cockpit.

I understand it's a pain in the butt but I think that's the idea. We used the honor system for many years but now it's clear that's not working and people are cheating the system. I would put the blame on the cheaters that are screwing this up for everyone. Talk to a line check airman to find out about how hot Anderson is about sick leave, then you can get an idea on whether or not there is an agreement to be had in the near future without changes to sick leave. In the end, I just don't see a motivation for the company to dig into all my personal records. They just want you to prove you are sick because lots of guys are lying about it now. The fault is with the liars.

Bananie,
If there is a problem, why doesn't RA put it out to the pilots...since he does not have an issue spewing the info to the LCA's. RA and the executive team can come to work even though they may not be completely well. We do not have that luxury. There should be no reason to dig into the personal medical records of any pilot.

Nope, I blame Dalpa and your sorts for even listening. An go ahead and tell RA that we can wind the clock and I will enjoy the PS on the way. i'm sure wall street will love our billion dollar payouts as much as we enjoy it. In fact rumor had it he was going to retire after the contract, the way I see it is he is a great CEO, keeping him around another couple of years will be a benefit! All the more reason to wait.

Anyway, calling my union brothers and sister liars and cheats and then using that justification to hurt the rest of us makes you a sell out.
