It is very broke. DALPA has been in Transmit only mode for years.

Can we agree a lot of money was wasted on this hair on fire sales job? Also, that almost any form of membership input was ignored or shut down where possible? If we can improve the system by getting everybody on the same page before hiking the ball wouldn't we be better off?
Btw, there is irony in all this. The DALPA guys routinely hide behind "Can't do that because it compromises our negotiating position"....then run an embarrassing fire drill throwing all our cards in the air followed by sending stern quotes by our CEO to the press! You think that might have hurt our bargaining position a little? Douchbagery at it's worst! Let's put new rules in place to prevent this from ever happening again please.

"Way too early, and way off target", I say.
But this happens in the RLA negotiating process all the time. Just the first time here at Delta is all. No need to panic. Let's take our time before we start changing all the rules or talking about an independent union.

Yes, I agree that this TA was ill-conceived and a waste of money...

Splinter Cell Moak training camps from the early 2000's were taught how to exploit the weaknesses within the DALPA system. Those weaknesses are finally being talked about. Let's address those going forward.

Guys like Harwood have been playing God behind the scenes much longer than this contract debacle. Management got cocky after pushing C2012 through and decided to go for the long ball (with the help of their special teams). The membership woke up and threw the spotlight on those characters and is just now realizing the system has cracks.

John Malone's opinion on this TA was probably the one I personally valued the most, BTW.

Im going to play devil's advocate for a sec about ALPA engagement and one sided communication (which they took to an embarrassing new low). The key to good communication is participation to be able to share ideas and have easy access to information. Im basing this off my previous union work but anytime we held meetings, whether they were at a specific location or online webinars, we would get DISMAL attendance, like maybe 5 to 10 percent of the pilots if we were lucky.
So the question is, with a huge number of commuters, and a pilot group that is focused on family and other commitments, how do you actually promote bottom up communication? This is my main concern because I want us moving forward to be a union of the pilots, for the pilots, and by the pilots. But how do we get participation up so that communication flows both ways?

Low meeting participation rates are meaningless. Any good rep with his/her heart in the right place is all you need.

) and I would sign an affidavit to move to have those added to our C&BL, along with a no scope, sick, etc concession pledge if I ran for rep. Folks who are planning to run should consider the same.
