Orange Momentum

I'm seeing more orange lanyards every day.

We are going to succeed in attaining a great contract.

The question is the speed at which it is attained.

The more unified we are, the faster we will reach our goals.

Management will float trial balloons and attempt to weaken our resolve. They are spitting into the wind.

Do your part each and every day.

Support your negotiating committee and your MEC. Take the time to call and write with your support.

Volunteer to picket or work on your local Strike committee.

I was happy to see a good showing in ATL last week. It's growing

Klondike Bear 03-30-2016 10:51 AM

How do we volunteer to picket? I'm in!

FYI Last trip through ATL I saw 3 big boxes of blue DELTA lanyards sitting open in CP's office. I thought wow, my orange one is not even worn out yet?!?!? No one said a word about my orange!!

CDG layover. our crew shared a bus with a NYC crew otw to the airport....not a single orange lanyard to be seen. Weak sauce. Our crew was 3 down and orange. I just dont understand why you wouldnt want to support the union now that we are all in the pot together regardless of how we got here

Elmer Fudd 04-10-2016 01:17 PM

I've seen a pretty good orange showing. The pilots who AREN'T wearing orange really stick out, IMO. They look pretty lame......guess they are on a different team? They'll be there to enjoy the spoils of a new and better contract, however.....even tho they didn't show any support for those fighting on their behalf.

Or they're on probation.

I'll be sporting orange as soon as I have 400 hours

This. ALPA wouldn't hand out orange lanyards at the new hire dinner and told us to not get involved while on probation.

HBdude 04-10-2016 04:25 PM

Anybody know about mil leave? Can someone picket, do union work, wear the lanyard when traveling? Or is it verboten by USERA or company policy?

The lanyard itself is verboten by company policy so I would say go ahead and wear it if you want. I have no idea about the other questions.

If you're nonreving or JSing while on MLOA and you're off probation, wear it.

A policy that only applies while in uniform and that cannot be enforced until July (six months following the FOM change). Even after that, ALPA still has a legal standing to ask it's membership to wear orange as a legal Union action.

An instructor at CQ told us the company initially asked them to enforce the new lanyard policy, but management reversed themselves after a couple weeks. Now the guidance is don't say anything about the lanyard policy. Most of the SLIs now wear orange. My sim buddy joined me and put his orange one on for day 2.

I've been wearing mine and my wife said "So when did you start working at Home Depot?"

Mine asked me "Since when did orange become an acceptable color when not associated with Harley Davidson? You HATE every NCAA team that wears orange." Told her 'Soon as we get a contract it's gone!"

In LA yesterday I saw Council 16 Chairman going into a pow wow with chief pilots and regional dir in the lounge. He was not wearing his orange lanyard while in business casual. Funny thing was, he was wearing a black lanyard with Delta on it. So the LEC chair in LA can't even be bothered to wear his orange while in a meeting with chief pilots. What kind of message does this send to management????

Their health insurance is probably better.

I think we know who'she side they are on.

16-3. We are fully in charge. I love having them on the MEC. They can report back immediately to management they are facing a brick wall of solidarity.

Lifeisgood 05-04-2016 06:25 AM

While commuting to work yesterday I noticed the pilots (who flew us) were not wearing orange lanyards. Stuck my head into the crew lounge - very few were wearing.

I noticed a lot of pilots not wearing ANY lanyards, just ID's clipped to shirt pocket flaps.

I want to say 3 weeks ago I saw more orange..
Did CPO crackdown on it?

Just curious.

Tumbleweed 05-04-2016 06:53 AM

There's lots of orange up in the PNW! I also want to throw out that this latest issue of the Widget with the negotiating team on the cover is phenomenal! There are lots of great articles in there including a lot of comparisons to United and other legacy contracts as well as some good history on how Northwest and Delta have negotiated contracts in the past. Absolutely superlative job, it's a very good read!!

dodgerk 05-04-2016 07:34 AM

How do I get a hard copy of the Widget
?

deadseal 05-04-2016 07:57 AM

Cun-Slc yesterday....CA had orange, FO not so much. I just don't get it. Aren't we all in the same frying pan right meow?

Usually there are stacks of them in any of the CPOs.

Was the FO on probation?

No orange to new hires. I think they are still giving out the black and red ones at the dinner.

What I meant was did the FO not wear orange because he/she is on probation? That would be a good reason not to wear it.

I was at the training center recently (looked for finis, nowhere in sight but saw an a$$ ton of new hires. I was as giddy to see them as they were to be here.). Anyway, I digress. I only saw two line pilots without orange. Exactly the opposite experience.

Indeed. I wish everyone understood that. I've gotten flak from two Captains now for not having an orange lanyard despite being on probation. I'm sorry, but I've seen hostages taken before. The ALPA pin will have to do for a few months.

They didn't even give us black and red ones. I've got my alpa pin on my tie and orange bag tag though.

I agree with you....I see orange on pilots a lot more than I see pilots without it.

Your only priorities right now are to fly, gain proficiency in the operation and equipment and get off probation. Don't do anything to jeopardize any of those. There will be plenty of time for you to show union support, be concerned with the contract negotiations and Figure out how much contractual gains would earn your yes vote only after you start paying dues and have a vote. For now...keep your nose clean and learn!

Have noticed more orange on every trip. It's definitely catching on. Kinda disappointing that guys waited so long to test the waters, though. That sends a message of its own.

Orange lanyards are great. Sounds like we might even see some informational picketing. But its still pre-game warmup. The whistle hasn't really blown yet.

I think there is a lot of pent up "militancy" out there. You can feel it on the line and in the lounges. Every time management puts out a memo telling us how great we are and how we need to keep up the operational excellence, guys are only getting more disgusted and angry. And its not just senior management. The whole Flight Ops structure from Dickson to the chief pilots and right down to the line check airmen is going to start losing credibility and respect.

Ed giving interviews where he attributes Delta's recovery and recent success to the great employees and the fabulous "culture" is just the latest insult.
How on Earth can he say that stuff while he still has the pilot group working under our bankruptcy concessions? Ed and everybody else may have recovered and prospered but we are still waiting.

The loss of our pensions was a devastating blow to a large segment of the pilot group. It really hurts to see the corporation now paying off all its debts and buying back all that stock and paying the huge bonuses to management and buying other airlines all over the world, etc. etc.. There needs to be some acknowledgement of the enormous sacrifice made by the pilots with that pension termination and at least an attempt to give us a chance to make up some of that loss.

Right now the MEC is pretty much keeping a lid on the boiling pot. They're saying there is no reason we shouldn't have a deal "this summer". That has left the impression that things are moving along and management is still negotiating in good faith. I hope that is true, but if its not...

Sometime "this summer" Malone is going to blow the whistle.

Whereisalpa 05-05-2016 02:16 PM

Well said Check E!! Tic toc, the clock is winding down!! We have given enough, way more than enough. Sleepy Ed may wish he took more, but if you ask my family he took it all !!!!

orvil 05-06-2016 06:07 AM

Check your email. Informational picketing scheduled, all bases. Be there, be square.

Why do guys NOT wear the orange? Are they against the direction the union wants to go or are they just scared of the company? Any thoughts?

I thinks a lot of guys are truly scared of Delta mgmt. These are the same guys that don't call in sick because they are worried about getting trouble, or refusing a duty day extension.
