Default DL not checking bags to final destination?

Family (2 small kids) was non-rev from PDX to SEA with DL and onward with Alaska to ANC. Check-in agents in PDX denied checking bags through to final destination, which caused extreme stress at SEA and almost a missed flight.

Is that really a Delta policy not to check bags through when continuing on a different carrier? It seemed it didn't even matter that it was non-rev, seems they would have denied it to a revenue passenger, too. I know it can be done and at my little independent regional airline, we will check your bags through to Timbuktu, if you show us how you get there. Seems a good system that is supposed to make travelling easier is abandoned for no good reason.

Can anybody answer the actual question the OP posed? It's implied they are an OA nonrev, since they didn't specify " Fly Confirmed (which is available to DL employees, not sure about regional affiliates). Without greater detail from the OP, my inclination would be to assume " ZED fare, " but I don't have the current knowledge to answer with confidence. However, I have successfully checked bags on a DL-AS connection to ANC via SEA, even with no pass in hand for the AS leg (had a listing for XCM, don't recall sharing that number with the check in agent - just told them the AS flight I was jumpseating on). Many of us would be thankful for an answer to this question: " Is there some level of listed travel priority below which connecting bag check is not offered by Delta and cooperating airlines?"

Non-revved to FCO with the family a few months ago. Our bags were checked all the way to FCO in ATL due to overhead space (flying ATL-JFK-FCO).

Not sure how it works now that the AS codeshare is dead.

I'm guessing this has to do with the ending of the relationship (AKA Codeshare) between Delta and Alaska. Can one check bags to a final destination of DFW if traveling on Delta from ANC to SEA and then on American from SEA to DFW?

I'm guessing here but I think unless your itinerary is one locator # the baggage tag would have to be hand written and I haven't seen that in a few years.

I deal with this often however heading south. Unless you are positive space on Alaska they are not supposed to check the bags through. Having said that the agent can make it happen if they want to. I suppose they could get in trouble. Another issue is two leg jumpseats. Agents won't check the bag through even on Delta both legs.

A few years back, Delta terminated their interline agreements with many airlines. That probably includes baggage. The AK codeshare ending probably put an end to that agreement as well. If getting your stuff somewhere is really important, consider the substantial discount we get with FedEx. I've sent bags that way before, door to door. Great if you have little kids and no extra arms and hands.
