Or maybe, it's simply a symbol of unity during a time we're actively trying to negotiate something for the pilot group.
Are there some entitled people? Sure. Have you ever talked to a mainline captain? Man. If you think we're being entitled over here.....
I'm sure people called us entitled when we tried to negotiate the highest pay rates in the industry. Were you one of them? Are PSA/Envoy/PDT pilots entitled for wanting to flow more? Since when is simply trying to get improvements automatically make you entitled??
For a lot of us, this is a good way for us to use the negotiating capital we've got to try and get something better. And by the way, it's entirely possible that none of the people here fighting for it will be here when it happens, we're likely fighting for the next generation of 9E pilots.
Maybe the pushback is that wearing the hat in opposition to the union campaign is essentially crossing the picket line and it makes it tougher on us to make our point. But what's funny is that I've heard more raving lividity from guys like you defending the hat than the other way. I'm glad you have a good looking uniform and look good while showing no disregard for the union you're a part of or the pilot group you work with.
I've never said one word to FO's that wear the hat, that's their choice, and I hope no one gives them too much of a hard time about it. But rather, a good discussion on the merits of the campaign. I've talked to one FO who simply misunderstood the campaign, and after we talked about it in depth he was much more on board.

You made a few valid points and sounded like a somewhat coherent person right up until you likened wearing the hat to crossing a picket line. You should probably educate yourself more on that topic before puffing up your keyboard chest and making an idiotic statement like that.

You’re misconstruing my point. The progression campaign, although completely fumbled by the union in its infancy, is now clear and they seem to have their story straight. Good for them. Progression for all. Sport the lanyards all you want, it’s a valid and important campaign especially in today’s hiring climate. My gripe is with the people who bully others regarding the hat. It’s a professional piece that completes the uniform. If you choose to wear the lanyard good for you. If you choose to wear the hat good for you. EDV ALPA can bang their little drum all they want, but big D isn’t going to do a damn thing until its in their best interest financially to do so. Hate to break it to ya.

By leaving your hat at home and wearing the orange lanyard, you are supporting your fellow pilot. That includes those that will come after us. If you can't do that, you don't belong here. Don't be like Delta saying to every that doesn't go through the same abuse you did. Stand up for a better path. Look outside just your own selfish world. Hats off, lanyards on!

Completely idiotic. Of all the options available to support fellow pilots, the union chose the elementary school SJW protest. As far as the hats go, it’s a different perspective when your a female with a full head of hair and flying out of Atlanta compared to a bald male flying out of Minneapolis in January.

As mentioned earlier, I also share concerns re: turning a uniform piece into a political item, but regarding the thing about puffy keyboards...If you are familiar with casualinterest's post history, which it appears you are not, he is realistic and pragmatic about both the company and the union. There are several flavors of kool-aid served in these forums but his posts do a good job representing what's actually going on.
