Any questions he has should be directed towards the Endeavor MEC.
2008 hire. Everyone pre 2014 is at delta??

No, what he means is everybody Pre 2014 was SSP. Your buddy isn't eligible for SSP, but is for DGI. He will keep longevity (including pay rate year) but not seniority. His previous 9E time will also count for the 1,000 company for upgrade.

I read that as his buddy is one of the ETLOA guys from the bankruptcy. They got something like 5 or 6 years to come back and never lost their seniority, his name is still on the seniority list right where it always was. Have to read the contract to see how the DL progression applies, he might be out of luck since SSP was only for people on property at the time of signing and DGI is post that. ETLOA guys are really neither.

ELTLOA guys were able to do their interview in seniority order while on that leave... I know one that was hired and is now at Delta without ever coming back off of leave. Not sure, but I think only medical leaves are still holding rights to an SSP interview anyone else missed their coin flip. Hopefully this program was a lesson/warning to new hires and union reps with hopes of a quick job at Delta....

As a 2008 hire he was eligible to participate in the SSP and had 4 years to do so. I'm not sure if he kept up with MEC emails - which I assume continued to come to him as they do all folks on leave. I'm assuming like Gearswinger said- if he was on ELTLOA or LTLOA then he was kept in the loop, seeing as MANY guys on leave took their SSP interview.

As far as the DGI, he is ineligible unless he returns to the company at the bottom of the seniority list.

Unfortunately, I think he may be out of luck. He should still email ALPA and find out what his options are.
