Default 3 Month Upgrade Award

Might as well start a thread on this. Most JR CA award is April 2017. Several NY CA slots went unfilled due to lack of qualified FOs that were willing to bid the upgrade.

It's too attractive to stay an FO. They get retention bonuses and the pay gap isn't what it used to be. It's time to sweeten the pot for the CA's to make the jump over more enticing. Time to bump up CA pay. No need for street CA's here.

Correct. With QOL in the toilet what is the incentive to upgrade. Better off staying a senior FO with the bonuses and at least have a little control of your life.

By my math the difference between starting FO pay and getting the upgrade to CA pay is $21,600 each year.
So explain how the FO retention bonus would make more sense to bypass upgrade?

It doesn't. I recently upgraded and the pay difference is Yuge. Especially with picking up OT. But these little negative games we play online sure are fun.

Any way you slice it, it's more financially lucrative to upgrade. There's no way around it. The retention bonuses make the FO salary actually livable though. The big thing is, the huge QOL hit and time away from home isn't worth it for many to bite the bullet. So take the QOL hit with the upgrade and couple it with the fact that you can make a decent living as an FO now, it's attractive for some guys to just sit in the right seat and enjoy good schedules and being home.
