Default LOA

So my wife is having a baby next month, the chief pilot said I can apply for LOA but it is NOT paid. I've been with the company for year and half, aren't you able to use your sick time for this?

I emailed F&H solutions center early last week never heard back, I called them and nothing .. just a voicemail.

I'd appreciate any info

Thanks

Sick time is for when you are sick. Advise FNH at least 30 days before due date. You have up to a year to use it. You can't do it intermittently. The documentation you need will be given to you in the hospital.

This really is a nonissue when taking FMLA.

FMLA for maternity leave can be covered by sick and vacation time. It’s in our contract. Section 18. D. (ps: that took me about 30 seconds to find. Use the contract people.)

Good luck getting sick time to pay for maternity leave. Working through F&H solutions is a beast. They will make You use all of your vacation time first.

If that’s true then I’ll have my grievance prewritten. It’s pretty black and white in the contract.

The OP said his wife was having a baby. The FMLA for him is considered baby bonding and is different from maternity leave. You can only use vacation for that particular FMLA.

That is correct. Same thing happened to me. I got three weeks paid after son was born. But the law states you can have much more unpaid. I think almost a year if I recall correctly. Which wouldn’t make sense unless you end up having a lotto win at the same time.

Yes you have a baby then you get paid maternity leave.

If your wife has a baby then it's not maternity leave. It is called paternity leave when your baby momma has the baby.

I just learned something new. I thought maternity leave covered both parents under FMLA. So now I am very interested in the correct answer because my “baby momma” is having a baby soon and I had all my plans on burning up my sick bank.

I know the feeling you are having right now. I had it too.

FMLA is a government regulation that gives maternity leave. It also gives baby bonding time for the non birthing parent. It also has provisions for bonding with an adopted child.

You can use vacation to cover it though.
