Forced Upgrades

Azorian- you have your answer. Every HVA candidate should read this before committing. (except for the BS on the meaning of scab. This group is like the dudes in The Wolf of Wallstreet. Jordan Belford is trying to explain a new pitch to make money and his boys get all caught up in some inconsequential comment.) Just gear up and prepare yourself mentally for sitting reserve. As you may remember, what wears on you over time is coming in on your day off; because your shift starts at 4am. Paying for a hotel room(4 free ones gone in a week), expensive airport food, sitting in a hotel room staring at the walls, sitting on your last day hoping crew scheduling will release you early so you can make a flight home and often denied to sit longer.
Unfortunately this nightmare starts again too soon because you only get 2 days off between reserve sits.

Jesus you are giving me PTSD from my last stretch of reserve days... hit the nail on the head
PS I was a new hire who was 154G aka forced upgraded, before this HVA thing was around. If I was in your shoes, I wouldn’t have come here knowing what you know now.
LGA commute from DFW is horrible the length of the flight and the time change make it a whole day affair.
Now your fighting with all those former ENY guys who are now commuting again to NYC at Mainline along with every other New guy forced to LGA.
So, to sum up an average work week for me..
Commute up the night before since we default to 0400 RAP... (flight lands at 2330 in LGA, you get to your commuter hotel and get to bed around 0100... 0400 phone rings to assign 0700 Standby at JFK (20$ Uber ride to the airport)
0700 rolls around you show up at JFK and go to the “crew room” if you want to call it that.. now you sit in your “Quiet/Snooze/Crew room” and listen to the Rampers playing music, yelling, screaming, shouting at each other. 0930 rolls around and all the am flights are gone (Next dep is 1540) so you call to get released... Denied “have to keep you there Incase we need to repo a plane to LGA”
So, 1400 rolls around... you get your Uber ($18-25 depending on the day) back to your crash pad or hotel.
You just proffered for the next day to find out you are on S3 (1500-2300 the following day at LGA) etc..
Fast forward to your last day...
Hopefully you can get one of the AM standbys... worse case scenario you get the 6-2 at JFk ($40-50 in Uber). You call after the last am flight leaves at 0930 to get released... Denied, may need you to repo a plane. Fast forward to 1400, you leave to head back to LGA to catch a 4PM flight home (hoping for a middle seat at this point). You finally get back to DFW around 1900 if you were lucky enough to get the AM standby.
Then one full day home the following day...
Second day off is spent commuting back for RAP 1..
If you hav any other specific questions shoot me a PM, I will try and help if I can.
Disclaimer: I’m not complaining about being senior, but If it was easy to start over elsewhere (without forced upgrades and being displaced from the base I came to the company for)I wouldn’t blink an eye.
Then again welcome aboard I could use another captain below me!

If that still doesn't click, we have folks here who walked the line during the Eastern strike who can fill you in.
