Default FO Overload

Quick question for someone considering Envoy. I know Envoy hired a ton of FO's at the end of last year which has caused them to only hire DEC's as of late. For someone headed to class in the next 2 months, do you think this will cause a problem? I don't want to be stuck on reserve as a new FO and as a newly upgraded captain in 2 years.

It’s the trendy and “cool” thing to say on the forums without having any background as to why someone is showing an interest to come to Envoy

I personally was considering Envoy for the flow to keep in my back pocket incase I had a failed checkride or something. The bases are slightly more commutable, 4 commuter hotels a month, and 3 months of positive space/unlimited hotels in LGA.

"Just answereing the question on getting stuck on reserve."

There's a chance you may never see reserve as a CA if you choose the 145 and avoid DFW.

As an FO-
There's always a chance that could happen. I think the company learned their lesson from The recent debacle and won't do that again. The key word is attrition. It's moving so fast that you likely won't be on reserve very long as an FO. Each aircraft will be different but as on now I think NH FOs will be on reserve a very short time unless you transfer to DFW right away.

June 2017, base transferred in March 2018, reserve one month in DFW.

Not all pilots will have the same experience at Envoy. I have been saying this for a couple years now. Envoy was a pig in 2013-2016 and no one wanted to come here. Fall of 2016 they slapped some lipstick on the pig and BAM I get a new bonus and pay just above poverty level and now people want the pig. Until managements and CS attitude towards pilots changes or a significant contract improvements Envoy will always be a pig. The ONLY bareable thing Envoy now offers is faster attrition so you have more movement from bottom bum to line holder. People will have varying experiences at Envoy based on luck of the draw and timing. And the funny thing is when a NH hits the proverbial jackpot and gets a line 1 month after training on the 175 while an FO two years senior to him on the 145 is still forced to do airport stand gets forced to upgrade on the 145 and now complains about it. I find that hilarious especially when they say doesn't the company want us on the 175 as a CA vs a new CA on a new airplane I have never flown before.

My experience has had its highs and lows but definitely more ups over the past couple years.

No one can accurately predict what happens in 2 years. This industry morphs and changes way too fast for that. I'd speculate that if you are willing to upgrade on the 145, you probably won't have to wait. There are a lot of people at this airline who are scared to death of flying this aircraft, and have demonstrated a willingness to defer upgrade to avoid it.

No idea how long you'll sit reserve as a captain, but probably not long since we lose a predefined number of sr. captains a month.

The soundbyte-sized advice I would give you is that if you are not a cadet, take a look at some of the other options. There is nothing wrong with the 145 as an airplane, but the NH experience here breaks down by aircraft -- everything moves a lot slower on the 145 and you'll get sent to NY, which is a co-domicile with astronomical COL and a mess for commuters.
