Pull out as in close Miami?
How junior MIA goes will always be vulnerable to huge swings. Less than 10% of our pilots are based there. If mgt decides to add a couple crews, the wait time gets reduced quickly. If the guys who commute elsewhere for lines bid MIA after a year or so, wait times increase quickly. If 20 guys come up for upgrade at the same time, wait times will decrease quickly. MIA does seem to be an afterthought. The MIA lines seem to go through other bases a lot. It's always difficult to judge because our schedules will have ORD crews flying through LGA, while LGA crews fly through MIA, and MIA crews fly through ORD. I honestly think Envoy keeps it open as a base just to maintain a strong recruiting presence in Florida. |
Thank you for your answers everybody, my next question is the following. I have interviews with Republic and Envoy, and a CJO from PSA. Since I live in MIA, and have no intentions of moving from SE FL, which would be the smartest option?
I know that there are issues with each company, and that for the first couple of months, commuting will be part of my daily life. If I fly for a non-wholly owned, what are the odds of still getting into AA (taking into account I have a college degree) off the street? |

If you are non-military, you might as well forget AA off the street. It's all flows and military, and very, very few (like, 2%) OTS guys. |

Republic is a much better deal right now than Envoy. You will commute either way for a while, but Republic work rules are better than Envoy's.

Unless you see AA as your only end goal and think you have issues that will prevent being hired otherwise, you have to ask yourself if the back pocket flow is worth it, eight to ten years from now and keep in mind it is NOT GUARANTEED even then. Southwest just announced a partner program for “less qualified” (rotor, Navs, WSOs) (still military though) pilots. The industry is changing. |

Less than 10% of AAs new hires each year have been non military/non wholly owned pilots. Slim chance if we’re calling a spade a spade.
I’d go to Envoy or PSA if your ultimate goal is AA. Don’t choose WO just for the flow. Look at the big picture. If everything else is equal, sure, but Envoy in particular still has a long way to go to make up the “everything else” areas. |

Currently, but like I said, the percentage of flows is decreasing. If you are starting at a regional this year your future is much different than someone who started a few years ago.

Envoy and PSA have both gotten flow increases in the last 1.5 years. AA’s solution may likely be to increase the flow from the WO vs open the floodgates to OTS hiring. Increases flow will make the WO more desirable to applicants and labor cheaper. Time will tell.

Was there another class today? Anyone know the breakdown (equipment, base, background)?
