Good for you, it's one of the most misunderstood and underutilized part of our contract. I wish more people did this.

Its also a bit of an idle threat. Are you planning on calling in sick for the rest of you career? That’s going to be a short career.

what career? there will be furloughs and it will take a long time to recover back to the January 2020 levels.

What kind of black magic do PSA and PDT use for their OT and trading? It would still loop into DECS right? Think we can jump on that until our dear QT is restored?

I have appropriated a few trips myself in the past. I see people trying to pick up OT for the next day using the automated system, FYI this won’t work.

You wait until it is assigned to a reserve then at 5pm call and tell crew schedule you want to “appropiate” whatever trip it is. This will give YOU the OT premium and whoever is on reserve will go back to reserve.

I am putting this out there just in general so people get an idea of how it works.

I'm not sure but I dont think psa and pdt use decs.

Yes. As a commuter, it's just about the only way to pick up OT outside of the RF window. And I don't like the idea of competing with everyone calling in at 5pm hoping I'm first... but what you say is exactly correct (but it's not exactly the ONLY way to appropriate...just the best way if you commute). And it's why the company wants to take this LOA back... it's often hard to reassign that reserve pilot, particularly if he's already confirmed his assignment. But it's now easier to do this than it is to use QT to pick up OT. For those tying to pull in extra money, this may be the best way the company has left them to do so.

Hold on sparky... let's try to keep the reserve guy in mind. I am all for appropriating flying for more OT. But don't call at 5pm. If the dude has proffered for a trip with a 6pm show on day 1 so that he can commute in, but you appropriate it before he can confirm, then he gets sent back to his default RAP 1 with no way of getting to work on time. It would be nice to at least give him a heads up to confirm before you call so that he can keep his show time and then get his cancellation hotel.

I recommend a PM through the appropriate facebook group.

Not too long ago, I talked to a pdt pilot on a deadhead and asked him about decs... he had no clue what I was talking about. They do it differently entirely. I assume the same about PSA but I could be wrong.

I do wish this was possible. Not everyone is on facebook though.

I do think a reserve guy, if he wants that late PM show time to stick, should call in to AVRS so that there is no hold time on the line. If you call to appropriate, even if you call right on the 5pm time... you will hold. It's been a while since I was on reserve but I don't remember having to hold on the automated AVRS line.

ALSO, you can have yourself listed on the reserve turnback list to keep yourself from being removed. You can also remove yourself from said list at any time, including right before you depart. This falls under the most misunderstood part of our contract I referenced earlier.

If the dude isn't on Facebook, that's his loss. It's about the only reasonable way to contact someone directly, or make yourself available to be contacted.

Frankly, I wish the turnback list never existed. It keeps people from making money while the reserve flies for free. I understand commuters feel they need to use it to protect their hotel, but they shouldn't. Also, in the above situation, I don't believe the turnback list will save the late show if the reserve hasn't confirmed. I'll have to try it out next month when I am back on reserve.

We need to develop some courtesies to be used among each other. It's a shame that we are conditioned to use a system that has us acting like people of Walmart scrapping over the last pack of toilet paper. There's got to be a better way.
