I use a long time urban airport and a greenfield (1972 farm fields) as comparison. Generalization has exceptions.
STL, a long time airport, has a bunch of junky areas around the airport. While there are a few very nice hotels (Hilton, etc.) most of the nicer mid priced are non existent.
MCI, built in 1972 among the cows and corn fields has both very nice hotels and plenty of nicer mid priced.

Given a choice between where Envoy stays in STL and MCI, I would take the STL hotel any day. Even taking location into consideration. At least the hotel in STL gives you three reasons to forget who you work for.

Does Envoy have a committee to address accommodations? If MCI is that bad, sounds like something that needs to be worked. Especially since there are a bunch of medium priced hotels around the airport that are decent.

We have a hotel committee, they’ve done a pretty solid job getting us out of the worst hotels and finding us gems like TUL and LIT. We just need to get out of IND and BUF.

MCI overnight does suck, but the hotel has a bar and the BBQ next door is decent. ENY MEC has a very good hotel committee, and they are doing a good job on weeding out the real dumps like EVV. Without contractual hotel language, they have a tough job, and they are pretty amazing at what they do.

MCI hotel isn’t great but it’s not atrocious, Republic stays there, AA FA’s stay there, I believe maybe someone else. The hotel itself is fine it’s just there’s NOTHING around.

Agree the hotel committee has improved some of the worst hotels. But like anything, different people have different preferences. Some people care more about the hotel and some care more about the location and what may be around it or how close it is to the airport itself because they don’t want a long van ride.
