Thanks all the others for the insightful replies
A knowledge VALIDATION (KV) is an electronic oral if you will.
"Open book" for limitations, systems, etc? Go ahead and plan on open book. Haha

I had exactly the required 3 days off between LOE and IOE last June but I was a DEC. My classmates had the same 3 days off. I do think they are good about scheduling IOE and the check airman have had some breaks from doing training lately. None of the FOs I have flown with complained about breaks in training.

I had exactly 3 days off between LOE and start of IOE. Crew scheduling works quick to get your first IOE trip built after you pass the LOE. Usually you'll get 2 4 day trips for IOE - 35 hours. If you need more they'll give it to you. CAs get 50 hrs of IOE

KV is open book (or correctable to 100) at most airlines.

Sorry, not a troll at all. It’s just hard for me to believe that the newer pilots expect to have an “open book” KV, which is a Pria reportable event. Hence to “wow “ comment.

Maybe, just maybe, some shops have an open book KV, not sure that the feds know about this.

But IMHO that is such a disservice to the future 121 pilot.

Btw, FOs love flying with me.

Well mind you some people have had a career outside the feds playground (so no, not a "newer" pilot), and there these test are mostly open book indeed. You could have conveyed the message like this from the get-go without the condescending tone...

Feds are quite aware of it. It's part of the philosophy they have for AQP. There are very few things that are required to be committed to memory, what matters is that you know where to find the information.
Being PRIA reportable (which is a funny term btw) makes no difference whether an event is open/closed book. You've never seen a PRIA report, have you? The sim that broke during SIM4 is a PRIA reportable event.

"disservice". Lol.

Btw. I bet you start your briefs with "I'm a laid back guy and I do things by the book".

Back to the original topic....

I understand the Systems Validation is a typical oral exam. How does the comapany help new hires prepare for that?
