I figured I had two options: be sad about it or own it and move on. Now that I learned from the mishap and applied it to my professional development, I just want to make sure it won't be an anchor to my career.

What made you go to ExpressJet?
I personally don't mind which base I'd end up at. Although I might have a different view about that once the time comes. But as of now, I'm seriously considering ExpressJet. I don't care to get on with the 175. I just want to fly something with turbines and 121.

Training - In my opinion , it’s fantastic. You will have some delays no doubt but that’s everywhere. Most the instructors are outstanding and they will work with you if you need extra sims without making you feel like a loser.
Bases - Chicago or Houston we’re both fine for me. I got Chicago.
People - you are going to fly with some pretty amazing captains ! At least I think so.
Hotels - better than most
Medical benefits - better than most
The union - they are working for us but take everything with a grain of salt.
Your issue resigning from a Flight Instructor position will have no factor on any airline hiring you. That’s just head trash. Tell them the story if they ask and move on.

Pay= yes some of its deferred. But I’ll take $40 per hour plus $2500 per quarter over the pay at many of the regionals. Look at SkyWest (Crap training , no signing bonus, no union )

Do you think ExpressJet is on the up and coming? Everyone around me seem to be going to Republic or PSA. But I feel like their hiring will slow down.

If you apply they’re gonna put you in the first class they can. If they hire as much as they set out to then you may find yourself with ok QOL. It’s a gamble, but I believe in it. I wouldn’t base yesterday’s data on tomorrow’s future, but presently it feels like something is changing

Well I am not an authority on the SkyWest relationship as I am a newhire... I can say one of the instructors talked about it and was adamant that it was a good move to be sold as SkyWest had invested $0 into the company.
With respect to training, I came here from 135 cargo flying from AK and I am kinda surprised by the training. It is way slower pace than what I did in 135, and almost too forgiving, but it is well organized. Is it feeling too easy? Kind of. But the instructors are slowly breaking down stuff into digestible chunks. Plus, our study guides shows exactly what we need to study every day to stay ahead. There is no emphasis to get way ahead and stuck in the weeds, but instead to focus on that week's syllabus.
FWIW I can say why I am here, and it is not to get to United. I think signing up for and relying on the AA flow/DGI/CPP is insurance, but not great. If I were to wonder why UA is not "honoring" the CPP, one just has to ask, "Why would they deplete these well trained pilots that make them money in 'their' regional when they can just scoop up other solid pilots from other regionals and adversely hurt their competition?" I know it's a stupid but I am not relying on flow/DGI/CPP to get to the next levels. Note, my top choices are not UA/AA/DL either.
Why I came to XJT is that I came here to learn (that and Compass is going down, so that was a bummer to hear) and because they have a union. I know people are chasing quick upgrade times and looking to get to the 1000 TPIC as fast as possible, but I think XJT has this weird combination right now of SUPER SENIOR captains coupled against dropping upgrade times. I know that if I could be flying with captains I want to fly with those guys and learn what I can from them and use it. Even if I don't stay and DEC somewhere else, I think I have more to learn here than what I can get at other places. This isn't saying anything bad about other airlines, but I genuinely look forward to flying with CAs that have been doing this for 20 years. They're probably good people, as with most of the pilots out there. I do think that as you monitor this forum you're gonna see month-after-month of dropping upgrade times. Maybe this has to do with the goal of hiring 1200 pilots by the end of next year... they already have ~300 in training since late June. The quality of those pilots, can't say... but the training is supposed to be great for the E145. Not that I support him but DSPS has claimed it and I do believe them.
Additionally, I don't think chasing the E175 matters. I heard its a sexy plane to fly, but I am really looking forward to the 145 and any chance I can get to handfly it well I am gonna try. QOL may be better on it as well. That's just what kool-aid I've been drinking however...
However, if I can get two winters in ORD, get about 1800 hours in that time, and feel I am getting close to upgrading (existentially and in reality with possible company growth), I will stick it out here and bid it. If not, I'll look to DEC. Unless the economy drops out.
The city flooded the other day and HR is getting us gift cards because our food went bad in our fridges when the power went out. I think they really want us here, I think the instructors want us here, and most of the people in class I have met want to be here. Now let's see how quick this optimism can last, or this pilot boom. I appreciate that. One thing that worries me is my hiring potential. I was asked to resign at my first flight instructor job. Now that I'm closer to applying, I feel like that may be a huge red flag on my application.
It wasn't for anything bad. I was just a new instructor and the flight school told me I could re-apply once I gained more experience.

This will be an awesome interview story to the TMAAT you had a difficult time in your flying career question. Be forthcoming, be honest about it, and tell them what you learned from it.
XJT won’t care that it happened, they just want to know that you made a positive correction as a result of it.

Self doubt is a huge obstacle to overcome sometime. I know it’s something that I’ve had to do. And am still trying to overcome it sometime.

As for a good time to come? For me it is. I live in base. I thought the training was good. I got a line after 2 months. YMMV. There’s certainly some things that could be improved , and it is kind of a gamble to that they will, but there is a huge upside I think.

There are only 293 new hires on the seniority list for the entire year of 2019. Of course, the company says they’re going to hire 600 pilots in 2019 but that’s not very realistic considering it’s almost October now. I haven’t heard anything regarding their plan to hire an additional 600 for 2020.
Of those 293 new hires from 2019, there are still pilots that were hired back in February, March, and April who have still not completed training as of today.
