That’s a big part of why we have the system that we do today. When they leave the military, they go to the bottom of a legacy, when a regional pilot leaves brand X express, they also go to the bottom of a legacy. Military pilots aren’t going to serve their country for 20 years and then go start at the bottom of a regional list with people straight out of a Cessna flight school. They’ve done their time just like the senior regional captain. They go straight to a legacy.

Your assumptions point to that military guy being entitled. I disagree. Everyone makes choices in life. I chose to do 20 years in the military and retire. Then I came here for a second career. My military service entitles me to certain limited things, a career at a legacy is not one of them.

Thank you for that post.

It’s what I was thinking but as a non-military it wasn’t my place to say it. Thank you for your service!

I don’t think that they are entitled. I think that they have the qualifications to get hired at a legacy, just as an experienced regional pilot does. The same would apply to an experienced corporate pilot. I don’t think that they should serve 20 years flying in the military and then have to start over at a regional. If their military career was in a non-aviation position, then the regionals would be a good place to gain the flying experience. There are different paths to the legacies. The military pilots are not entitled to those positions, and neither are the regional pilots.

Take advantage of this time and enjoy it. It seems like yesterday that my daughter was 2, now we’re looking at colleges. Somehow in the blink of an eye, she’s almost grown, and I’m just old, grey, and 20 lbs overweight.
