United did not want to sell the airline. I made an offer and no one ever got back to me except the ALPA reps.

The sad part is that ExpressJet didn't even draw the loan money available to save it. They really did just want you folks to disappear.

Was your offer more than $1?

Yes. ExpressJet is worth a lot more than $1.

An airline's biggest asset is competent personnel. It is easier to create a new business plan for an existing airline with capable people than having to build a whole new operation from scratch. ExpressJet can operate a range of aircraft from 50-100 seats and be extremely competitive cost-wise. I am disappointed that United threw the airline in the trash like that. That was not a good decision on their part.

I understand your disappointment, but it should be a lesson to all of us. United never has and never will give a damn about the people who work for it or any of its feeder airlines. Those foolish enough to buy into the core 4 BS are simply victims of labor relations propaganda.

It has nothing to do with caring or not caring about regional employees. While I am disappointed at United's decision, ExpressJet was just another vendor who is replaceable. Just like you decide to switch from Bob's Plumbing Service to Steve's Plumbing Service for a lower cost (or whatever metric United wanted). I get people choosing to make a regional a career but this is a potential pitfall of that choice (or lack of a choice for some).

i agree, however my understanding is that UALPA would never let the new company get that workforce for “cheaper” and when you have a company that has a very top heavy workforce it becomes a problem... now that asset becomes a burden and they elected to dissolve and also that rumor with breeze died out supposedly due to this...
