Any help would be appreciated.
The people above are including per diem. If I remember right take home pay after taxes is about $1450 with no insurance. Per diem is $300-600, depending on how much you fly. I'd like to know how someone on first year pay took home $2500 in a month.

Second year pay take home is about $1900 + per diem if you aren't paying for health insurance.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll definitely be taking the disability.

Regarding the 401k, it just doesn't work for our situation. We are intending to move to the UK when we have kids and 401ks don't transfer. We have UK pension plans going already and my wife has a very good 401k with her company just in case. Our financial advisor has set us up with a pretty sweet deal specifically for our situation, so it wouldn't make too much sense to take the 401k option. Although it does sting a bit knowing that we're essentially turning down additional long term income from the company.

Your financial advisor is advising you to turn down free money from the company? Just out of curiosity what was the reasoning? I may be in a similar situation soon.

It essentially related to the ability to access money in a 401k from overseas if we were ever to make the move back across the pond. There could be double taxation issues once we made the move unless we fail to declare the 401k in the UK, which isn't really an option. It's all very complicated, and in all honesty I'm still trying to get my head round it, but it certainly seems to be more trouble than it's worth unless we plan to retire in the US, which we probably won't.

Guess I'm at the wrong airline or something like that.
Sounds like you are. On 2nd year pay I will make over 45. You must fly one of those heavy embraer jets.

Makes me laugh that a people working for the airlines have financial advisers. Do these people work for the airline too? Seems as if anyone with a good head on their shoulders and an understanding of finances would be sure to advise against becoming employed by an airline.

A college education in aviation to become employed as a front line employee at an airline is probably the worst investment ever.

Just saying....

Yeah! I wish I'd met him before I trained! At least it's a family friend so we don't have to pay the bastard!

I was told to expect either ORD or EWR. Not sure I times, I had 1200tt with 900 multi turbine. I think with your turbine experience you'd be in with a chance.
