I don't know if you work here or not or what you're basing your opinion on, but they've being hiring like crazy all year, over 450 by year end, and have hardly put a dent in the understaffing that our former management caused.
That, and the fact that people are leaving (they had expected even more but well over 100 captains left not including all the FOs that left for Greener pastures) plus instructors recalled to training center etc.. Plus the new base that had to be staffed, plus another new base (den) next year.
I got it directly from the training management that they are trying for a MINIMUM of 300 but planning on more. The mass cancellations that we had this year CANNOT be repeated ever again! Not to mention the huge cost of 200% pay for everyone for months on end. They're also preparing for expected increase in attrition.

I have a feeling that those who are saying that all this talk of mass hiring next year is false, are from the ASA side who are yet to experience the total mess that has come about on several occasions this year due to a chronic shortage of crews. I have it on good authority that we are aiming for 300 upgrades and 600 new hires next year, it's just a case of whether the training center can handle those volumes. A DEN base is no longer a case of 'if' but 'when', and the current IAD base on the ASA side may well expand to include the current ERJ operation that is in place and is currently staffed by ORD crews.
This doesn't even take into account the current rumours of something going on with Delta regarding flow through or preferential hiring. I was talking to a guy just the other week who was on his way down to IAH for training. At his interview he had done additional Delta tests and was told that this was necessary due to 'the new flow through program'.

The 300-600 number is correct for the former XJT side, we just don't know which end of the scale it's going to be at yet. We need to upgrade a large number of FOs next year in order to staff ourselves properly. The projected number of upgrades is currently around 300. This comes straight from our head of pilot recruitment. I wouldn't be too surprised to see an addition number of guys coming from the former ASA side in addition to those who were on furlough from XJT.

On the ERJ side of the house, it's a one-time per diem check of about $1400-1500. No guarantee until you pass your initial PC.

What interview dates are people being called for now? What are the closest class dates people are getting?
Also, a poster mentioned lots of FOs have left XJT for greener pastures... if anyone doesn't mind sharing, what are these "greener pastures", for those who know some of these FOs?

I'm currently at a complete bottom of the barrel regional, not even close to upgrade (if the company was to even survive that long) without many options, and finally in a position where I can make a change, so starting to look around. Want to be close to home so I can drive. Not willing to commute so NY area based "airlines" are the flavor of the day, and I believe EWR is the junior XJT base.
P.S - Jetblue or Atlas has been taking FOs from XJT? Without TPIC?
