Default SkyWest & ExpressJet Pilot Poll

All,

I'm wondering who would be in favor of an in-house SkyWest INC union. When the dust settles on this merger, I think it would be time to end all the whipsaw and get a single representative council.

My thoughts:

- One master list
- One contract
- Two certificates
- Fence the SkyWest cert to appease the naysayers, maybe for 5 years?
- Any transfer of airplanes between certs would include pilots integrated according to the master list. After the fence ends, pilots may move to any seat via vacancy bid.

Seems to me the company could benefit tremendously by combing the company and getting rid of an entire management team and office complex. I wonder how many millions of dollars would be pumped into the bottom line.

We would benefit tremendously by having a 7,000+ member unified pilot group. Bargaining power, anyone?

Other polling options include one master non-union list, one master ALPA list, and status quo (two seperate certificates and contracts.)

The Skywest ceo (who is mormon) would probably let has have a nudie bar christmas party before letting us have one union. He is totally opposed to any idea of one list and will try and stop it at all costs.

edit: this is from the union reps

We should go one list, no union. Unions, especially ALPA, never helped anyone.

I agree with needing one list but definitely think that some form of union is necessary. You don't know your history very well if you think unions have never done anything. And don't use ALPA as your only argument for no union.

Yamaha:

Have you worked under ALPA or any other union? Do you understand that the union is the pilots (LEC/MEC)? Or are you just part of the skywest "student council" that bends over at management's wishes?

To the OP, as mentioned in an earlier post, as much as we want a single list, Utah wants "big love". It will never pass.

We'd never know unless we tried. I think it could pass if we provided enough protections for all involved. First step is to elect joint bargaining representation. If we could initially fence both sides and get a "SkyWest Pilot's Association (SPA)" or whatever name, then work through the rest of the details, everyone would stand to gain a lot, especially management, which could work in our favor. Imagine the cost savings of one pilot group, one management group, one mechanic force, one training department, one domicile per hub (look at IAH, ORD, DEN). We are talking big money.

I think we could convince Jerry to weigh in favor of a combined list, and I think we could get the SkyWest pilots on board if we protect their bases and seats for a long enough duration.

Im a 8 yr SkyWest guy, not totally opposed to the idea of one list if some good fences were in place. In a perfect world, I would prefer an independent union.
