What's upgrade time looking like?

I am a 9 year FO with no upgrade in sight. We have not had ANY upgrade classes in over 6 months. We are very fat on CA's right now.

I think we only upgraded around 25 people last year. I am still around 80 from being able to hold CA.

Yep. And the majors rewarding the contracts know which airlines are attractive to pilots. They are monitoring the pilot contracts and compensation. They know Mesa won't be able to attract or retain pilots. And they won't risk the cancellations.

Agreed. Mesa is in trouble.

That must be the same reason they are taking planes away from XJT. We have not been able to fill a class in months. I only see around 30 a month in hiring even though the company is claiming 40.

Wait? You have a lot of captains so you can't upgrade. I understand that part.
But why aren't the captains going to United or Delta? Or moving on to greater places?

For some there is no moving on. Some by choice, others for reasons beyond their control.

Ah I see.
So the QOL is great once you put your time in.

That's a matter of perspective. Some pilots had bad luck and bad timing.
Someone who is in the neighborhood of 10 years from retirement with great seniority might consider their current QOL to be better than what they can get by moving on to a major and starting from the bottom again.

Most of the senor regional captains I know seem to think the legacy carriers don't want anyone who's been a regional CA too long and few of them have been offered interviews while junior CAs and FOs are getting called like mad.

I plan to go to LA Tech next year and I'm considering ExpressJet for the United CPP. Are a lot of Captains and FOs going "flowing" to United from XJT?
