New Secondary System
Just looking for some people who have experienced the new secondary system to give a quick overview. I saw the ALPA email yesterday, and it looks like some portions of the new secondary system have been implemented and some have not. If I bid it, based on recent results I will probably be the #1 secondary line holder. Does that mean I will get what I bid for, is it still "just a preference?" I have a 30+ hour carryover trip into November - can I designate the number of hours I want my line built to, or will they stick another 70+ hours on my schedule? Do I bid specific trips (like the CIC input), or am I just inputting preferences (like the standing secondary line preference worksheet) and letting the computer decide what I really meant to say. . . .
I have a feeling that if I just assume the worst possible outcome I probably won't be too far off. Hoping to hear from guys who have experienced it first hand - thanks.

I don't think that's the case. I flew with someone a few months ago who was telling me about the new system (unfortunately I don't remember who it was or I'd ask him). There are new options in VIPS in the View/Add/Secondary Windows section. There are several different sections in the CBA implementation schedule on the ALPA website that relate to the new secondary system, and about 75% of them have already been implemented. Have you bid a secondary in the last few months?

Only the interface has changed thus far, still the same engine behind it.
Two positive changes so far, the refresh of open time after CIA process complete and the recent elimination of Involuntary Conversions.
Rest remains the same, for now

I tend to bid the lines I want to fly and then VTO. Currently about top 20% VTO kind of guy.
CRS does a decent job of building my VTO around the days I want to work, and the trips/kind of trips I like to fly. YMMV.
What I've started doing is if there's that 1 or 2 trips I highly desire, then they consist of my #1 input.
I no longer build my entire desired month in my top 5 or 6 requests of various trips and then my generic I'd like to work here, there, then.
In some ways, think the new system will be worse since it will dramatically expand the ability of Rsv line holders to use the CIA process

Why will it expand reserve holders ability to use CIA what did I miss?

Touching an R day block w/training makes the whole block go away. Previously had to bracket training w/R days...and the training buffer occasionally led to unexpected results for folks bidding training.
So there will be an increase in the amount of Reserve Line holders who will be able to make use of the CIA process. Some of them will no doubt live in Memphis and if Reserve utilization is low may choose to opt for B reserve, but some will not. Rather going for a blended month of some R days and Some trips. And the trips they get to choose from will be prior to Secondary lines being generated.
