Which is exactly why we would be fools to allow the union to dump our current A plan and negotiate a new variable benefit plan. Absolute, pure folly to think that we would not have gaping loopholes in any new agreement. I'll gladly take my chances with inflation slowly eroding the benefit over the damage that the company lawyers and the market would do to a variable benefit plan.
Gaping loopholes?
It's Math, not something that's subject to interpretation.
The IRS DC limit is the IRS DC limit.
(I'd be worried about the potential impact of an IRS DC limit radical reduction on our Pension funding, if that issue hadn't already been addressed for our B plan (See 28.E.2))
A 2% Floor is a 2% floor.
And it's not just ALPA watching our Pension funds, it's an ERISA mandated annual report

A 2% floor is only there if they can negotiate it. Also, the 2% floor that the VB plan modeler is using is capping earnings for that 2% floor at the IRS 401(a)(17) limits, the same limit that effects the DC plan. So, if they lower that limit, you still get 2%, but that 2% is less once you reach that limit.
Yes, there could be gaping loopholes. It is math, but remember, figures lie and liars figure, just ask the retirees that got their vacation buyback on December 31 instead of January 1 how loopholes effect the math.

My take on the perks of senior pilots in a seniority based system: Senior pilots have been here longer than junior pilots, an obvious statement. Everyone hired here will have the opportunity(health permitting) to be senior and enjoy the same benefits. It’s the same at every corporation in America. Not everyone gets paid the same. In my time here I’ve watched many of those who complained about carryover lines and all the other perks become the very people they complained about once they had the seniority. It’s human nature. The system isn’t perfect but it’s what we have and everyone will get their turn. The ideas to limit everyone to a similar BLG sounds like something out of Bernie Sander’s playbook.

Sorry didn’t see the question. Yes I certainly think it is fair that a senior guy should be able to bid the highest paying line. I do not think it is “fair” that that line should exceed the lowest paying line by 60 hours when we supposedly have a 15 hour limit.

I agree with you on the spread. I could have held a carryover trip in my VTO. So even if I do not have any makeup bank why shouldn’t I be able to pick one up in open time. Did not need the hours to bid it so same reasoning should apply!
