Heard nov is expected to be 20 and December class is unsure. Also heard 55 per month starting in January, of course always subject to change.

Current training letter shows the following new hire openings unassigned through end of 2022:

9 x MEM30

11 x MEM57

5 x MEM67

1 x IND67

6 x OAK67

8 x ANC77

8 x MEM77

6 x ANC11

5 x MEM11

That makes a total of 59 additional new hires planned through the end of this year. I would venture to say this will be split into 3 classes, but who knows. It’s impossible at this point to say exactly how they will resume for Jan ‘23 but we are still taking new 777 and 767 so it would follow that they would be putting new hires into those airframes. Plenty of pilots still waiting to train on those planes from last bid though so we will see.

Update from senior management yesterday

“…With that said, we continue to see retirements and we continue to accept new aircraft. Therefore, even though we have stepped back from the frenzied growth of the last couple years, hiring must continue to meet specific fleet goals and training will continue to qualify existing and new pilots to meet that demand. The goal remains to get to the “right-sized” pilot cadre to meet the requirements of the airline schedule.”

Cute wording. I guess we shouldn't be BUYING aircraft since we're so poor and all. For now we'll have to just ACCEPT them.

If a class starts in December not all will start ITU training in December.

Training Letter

Anybody have the time to explain a little about the training letter and how it trains out in the future? For example, on the Bus, the original award projected 402 as the final number of Captains. As of now, there are 366. But the future training on the letter only has about 7 pilots planned and the next one is not trained until May of 23. Why is there a discrepancy in totals without more pilots in the pipeline? TIA

Those are Notional Awards. Flex, TAA, etc. You'll see the Upgrade ITU slots for the various fleets available after the SWW opens.

Also the January ITU bid doesn’t open until Oct 20th and closes on the 27th. Once those awards go out the training dates will show up in the letter.
