At other airlines the coastal bases are junior because the more desirable places to live are mid-continent. However FedEx’s mid-continent bases are not in desirable places to live.

also, yes there are a bunch of senior tigers guys in LAX.

Training Foot Print

What does the training footprint look like for a newhire from the start of BI? Is the training all in class or is part self paced home study? Thanks

depends on the fleet. MD takes the longest. Typically 3-5 weeks off between BI and the beginning of ITU(actual aircraft training) 75/76 takes about 2 months. You’re on training pay until you check out on IOE.

Speaking for the MD, it's slated as a 37-day footprint before you factor in breaks. BI is 2 weeks and then I had about a week or so off before class started. Some people in my group had over a month (depending on the fleet). It just depends on how backed up training is. My training took about 2 and a half months with the holidays factored in.

For the MD, there are LMS lessons that you do on your own time for systems, etc and must be complete before the LOE. I recommend getting them done as soon as you can to get them out of the way. There's also 5 days of Systems ground school prior to the Electronic Systems Validation.

Speaking for myself, while it is a very long program, it is also the best Initial training program I've ever been through. The MD-11 is a pretty complex airplane, but this particular training department will do everything they can to make you feel comfortable flying it by the time you activate to the line.

Smaller class of 20. MEM77 most senior and EUR57 went to the plug. Should be a new class today.

I thought the foreign bases were volunteer only?

Correct

“No pilot may be assigned to an FDA crew position unless the pilot includes the FDA crew position in his standing bid in accordance with Section 24. C.2. c.i. (a).”

I think you mean 3-5 DAYS off between BI and the start of training. Seems like 1 week is pretty standard here recently..
