What does a current issue have to do with sins of the past?

That party of Jim Crow, segregation, etc. morphed from D to R via years of The Southern Strategy. I am not saying that the R’s are racist. However, today, if a racist is looking for a political party...... I digress.


It sounds like that the free market is already deciding this.....unless you think that corporate sponsorships aren’t part of the free market.

 

I am proud of FedEx for being part of a positive change. I hope we can all start treating each together with more dignity and respect in the future.

You gotta be kidding me. I’ve NEVER witnessed anyone being treated undignified or without respect at FEDEX. I’ve NEVER considered “Redskins” a derogatory term, only a snowflake would get their panties in a knot over such a harmless issue.

 

You’re having a problem with context. Nobody suggested undignified treatment at FedEx. It is about the indignity of the racist mascot and obviously racist stereotypes in general.

Oh, you never considered it derogatory? That’s nice. I am glad that you have the pulse of everyone. Also, check the dictionary definition. It is very similar to the “N” word.

Your childish and ignorant statement impugning all with a different view than you as a “snowflake” (a word about which you know nothing) speaks volumes about the kind of person you are.

Even Native Americans dont find the word offensive, but dont stop your self-hatred from ruining a narrative. Lets change all names- How about Washington DC? What will you replace that with? This is the problem with this movement, but I know you're blind to it. Good luck with that.

 

To compare a name of a city to a derogatory word directed at one race is preposterous.

It seems we are trying to get rid of all symbols of past offenses. People want schools, streets, cities, teams, to be renamed. The Democrat party was the party of slavery, segregation, kkk, Jim Crowe, etc. So I’m just surprised that the woke sjw haven’t gone after the name Democrat party. As in renaming the party to something else, not abolishing it. Although seeing their stance at abolishing police, I’m surprised they aren’t going for that since it’s also an existing entity.

As for the supposed southern strategy, let’s assume that myth is true (you can find on duck duck go how it’s been debunked). It still doesn’t change the fact that it was the Democrat Party that was for all those racist things and whose name still exist. They are going after names of people who were racist or otherwise treated people unfairly regardless of any understanding of them in today’s world. The fact is that the GOP has never been for anything of the racist institutions the D party was for. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. And they get rid of their racist like the Iowa congressman. The D’s had kkk Cyclopes in their party in the not too distant past. The point being that it’s the D party that is historically and factually associated with racism.

Lastly, like I said, the free market will decide this. Of course corporations are part of the free market. Where on my post did you assume I meant anything else other than some confirmation bias on your part. I don’t know the ownership structure of this team but assuming it’s a single person ownership, it’ll come down to whether he can still make a profit without sponsorships, or if he can’t, whether he is wealthy enough to care. Again, free market.

 

It sounds like this statement conflates two things. There can be derogatory terms and also people treating each other with dignity and respect. For example, I know that the name of that team has absolutely no bearing on how I’ve treated people. And I’m confident that pilots I’ve flown with here haven’t taken into account the football team in dealings with me. Which is why this issue doesn’t matter to me. If people want it changed, so be it.
