CGN base
Howdy guys,
I'm wondering if anyone got information on the CGN base as far as, are they awarding it to new hires? Is it mandatory to live in CGN or is it possible live anywhere in Europe? And if anyone based there is it a good base to be in or would it be better to be MEM base and commute from Europe? Also is it correct that pilots can only be based there for 5 years only?
Thanks in advance!

It's unlikely you'd get it as a new hire. There were a few open spots on the last bid but not a ton. My guess is that if there is one in a class that it'd probably go senior so you'd need a high last four of your Social Security Number to get it if one did drop. If you're gonna get the extra money you get for moving to CGN you would need to live in base. Commuting to MEM from Europe sounds to me like it'd be rough... I guess it'd be only one leg in depending on where you'd be coming from but that's a long day. There is a 5 year limit. I've met guys who bid over to MEM for a bid and then bid right back.
I wish I could go live in Europe for a few bids but the wife hates the cold.

Looks like there will be a new hire headed to CGN in Sept. I’m kinda shocked.
if awarded, you have to live within 100nm of CGN and IN Germany. Would be a great places to
be a new hire with all the housing allowance, extra pay etc.
