Saves us the cost of a recall once their pancake TA was put before the pilot group.

I mean who wouldn't want to represent this group.

Another Union schill. Thought you left. Maybe pilots who aren't management buy outs would represent our union, I've seen at least 5 iterations of "leadership" at our union, everyone a sell out. Its simple, A Plan at the max IRS is $230K. We should be settling for NO less. This contract is easy, get the A plan to the max and up the hourly rate. Not too much else to fix. And we have record block hours across the fleet. How about guys work RLG and no extra. We'll get the company's attention.

25 years- glad you have this all figured out. Funny you don’t see the hypocrisy as an anonymous author calling out union volunteers who actually do work on your behalf. Gutless wonders you say- really? Walk a day in their shoes my friend and you will figure out very quick who the gutless wonders really are.

Again for the two guys who care- thanks for your service and ongoing work on behalf of all Fedex pilots. Even Gutless Stan446.

If you think the MEC chairman and vice chairman are volunteers, you need to figure some things out. They get paid over $400K a year for their work as well as other expenses. Does that sound like a volunteer to you, or an employee of the union.

They aren't volunteers and they all have been leading the union membership in the wrong direction.

volunteer

vol·un·teer | \ ˌvä-lən-ˈtir \

1: a person who voluntarily undertakes or expresses a willingness to undertake a service: such as:
a: one who enters into military service voluntarily
b(1): one who renders a service or takes part in a transaction while having no legal concern or interest
(2): one who receives a conveyance or transfer of property without giving valuable consideration
They may not be unpaid volunteers, but they are volunteers nonetheless, and I for one appreciate them raising their hands and stepping up.

With as greedy and self-centered this pilot group is, I'm surprised that we don't have a line out the door for these "well paid" union positions. I mean, if you believe what you read on social media, these guys were making close to $500,000 and doing absolutely nothing but lining their pockets. That sounds like a great gig for the blowhards on here who have all the answers. Or could it be that you all know that those jobs are thankless work and the compensation isn't even close to being commensurate with the work they put in or the headaches they had to deal with.

Hey, I can do that too!

From the Cambridge English Dictionary;

volunteer
noun [ C ]
US /ˌvɑː.lənˈtɪr/ UK /ˌvɒl.ənˈtɪər/

B2
a person who does something, especially helping other people, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it:

Now, I don't think of the MEC chair or vice chair as being a military position.

Maybe you can explain how they meet the other requirements of the definition of a volunteer that you posted.

Based on how you are interpreting volunteer, we are all volunteers for FedEx. Its just not an unpaid volunteer position.

Now, if you said that the block reps were volunteers, I would agree.

It is exactly like military service, insomuch as that it's something that's not expected of every citizen, but people who are willing to raise their hand in service of others volunteer themselves to the military. Just like as FedEx pilots, the people who choose to run for offices volunteer their time and effort on behalf of those of us who don't.

That's all I'm going to say. You can have the last word. Now I remember why I don't come on here anymore. It's depressing. I'll just keep peeking in every once in a while to see if TonyC and BrianH or any of the other smart people on here volunteer apply for the MEC officer jobs. My guess is no.
