NO the question is HOW long into negotiations did they start preparing for a possible strike vote.
EDUCATION, that is what is missing here. Our leaders are failing us. telling me to have my financial house in order is not education. I ALWAYS have MY financial house in order. I don't need to be reminded of that, EVER.
Saying here is the process. Here is how we are released, here is what happened to company XXXXX when their pilots were released. Here is how ALPA will have your back while on the road and the company no longer houses you mid trip. This is how we will organize our picket lines and where. Here is what will be expected of you during the process. Here is what happens to those who don't support their fellow pilots during the event. Here is the expected duration looking at historical events. Here is what our strike fund looks like. Here is how the comm plan will work. Etc.
This is the kind of education that must happen well before the event. If it doesn't we will fail. Anyone saying we can't say any of this because we will be tipping our hand had better realize the company is already planning and practicing for this possibility. I doubt we will sneak up on them and surprise them with our awesomely sneaky plans if they are needed.

Just once we need to be proactive. Not reactive. The NC chair talked about how he is tired of the company's actions at the table. WE only have four items on one piece of paper left to negotiate.
When do you think it will be time?

It's very easy to tell who is not on our side. No lanyard, you know that person has not shown up for any picketing activity. They are demonstratively against taking sides for a new contract. That's just easy low hanging fruit. You have a jumpseater with no lanyard....question them hard why, then tell them they get the fold down seat. It's a long JS to Asia/Europe on the fold down. That does not even begin to tackle the draft/extenders. But it's a start, how hard is it to wear something simple like you were requested. Hammering lanyards is where we should have been a year ago. Where is the draft tracking data like last contract? How can we be sure the schedulers are following the contract if we don't track who has been called and in what order? The list of what we could be doing is long and distinguished.

Again the company is playing chess as another poster phrased. It's obvious it would take at least two months to "educate" the crew force before we could vote. Then a 30 day vote window. So if I'm sitting across the table, holding a better offer in my back pocket, I know I have time on my side. ALPA has not even started the education process. They can wait and wait. They've effectively bought themselves this peak. Now if I was them, I'd set my sights on next peak as my strategic goal. If it doesn't hurt them, what's in it for them to negotiate? They are a business, a penny saved is a penny back to the shareholders/Sr Mgt.

At the hub turn meeting they touched on the draft numbers. Let's just say they were trending way down. Still see a few regulars picking up TPU and making phone calls to Crew Control to get extended, but they can't help themselves....ever. It's comical they think they're anonymous too.

Good news on the draft numbers. I would be curious if the dropping in draft numbers is the result of pilot choices or the result of staffing numbers increasing and reduced needs to draft pilots. Is a TPU trip doing draft or picking up OT? I thought a TPU is a proffer trip from another pilot not in OT? What am I missing? If one begged to be extended after that I get the foul play in that but not the TPU part.

TPU so they can open up calendar for draft/vol/AVA.
How ever TPU this week might be used to get time off for Thanksgiving if unable to drop the trip.

How would the pilot picking up TPU be at fault. You’re just helping another pilot. What they do with their time is on them.

Ahhh. I agree that those cleaning their calendar away by proffering away trips to only do draft are bleepers.
I don’t see the sin in those grabbing TPU’s especially when it may help another pilot get days off they otherwise would have had to work. TPU trips are NOT open time.
