I would gladly trade the pension for the MBCBP (well, a slightly improved version) based on my career timing. I want a lump sum, not be dependent on my employer to stay in business for 50 more years. I also get the pension for years accrued.
Yes. Instead of cash over cap, we could ask for a much higher contribution % to make the effective contribution % higher. I guess it would depend on what we can negotiate.
This is not the good deal you think it is. It leaves junior pilots with a very small DB plan (whatever was frozen). It would also leave little to no room in their 401k for their own contributions.
I appreciate that you understand its value. Many people don't because they didn't take the time to study it, or their blind love affair with the pension keeps them from wanting to know.
I agree, either a higher contribution percentage, ideally on the DC side, or some means to catch CoC is needed at this point. I just hope we keep an improved version of it as an option in TA2. I'm afraid it will be axed, which will be sad for junior pilots or pilots who have been here a long time and will work past 25 years, even if they don't know it.
