There are a lot of complaints about the actions of our union members, actions that many argue are hindering our leverage in negotiations. Consider now the 10-20 percent of our members’ behavior on the road, the cheating on spouses, the inebriation, the overall lack of character, and realize that there is very little we can do to change this behavior. In other words, stop trying. These things haven’t changed one bit in the 22 years that I have been here.
When I was hired, we had resentment of the Flying Tigers and how they were folded into the seniority list. We had a lot of guys who couldn’t get hired by the major passenger carriers, and then we had the passenger furloughs and bankruptcies that essentially dissolved their pensions, resulting in the swelling of egos at FDX. Yes, we were the $hit. We bragged about how good we had it and died young. We still die young. Union officers worked to get into management, many of whom understood the perils of third-shift work in aviation. The optimizer kicked in. synthetic time decreased. city purity was lost, as contract after contract our QOL was eroded for less-than-inflationary pay raises, our union leaders telling us that we would get then next time. Only next time never came.
We are a terribly flawed union because we are terribly flawed members, and the $hit sandwich we are enjoying is our own fault. We helped make it, and now it’s being crammed down our throats and still we behave as we do.
So bon appetit mon friers. There are several more courses to come from the menu we created. Stay safe. and remember: it is just a job.

yea, and the recent hires are the **** and are perfect. What you described is the same crap I hear from my delta friend that flies SA and delta with the NWA merger. Get over your self you are so perfect. Maybe we should all repent and go to church tomorrow, Better yet maybe some should stop trying to increase their bank account.

Which is why the SAM needs to die with the death of section 4.a
The company reinterpreted everything to their whims the last time we went down this road in 2010. We learned nothing and didn't get rid of the whole section. Here we are with the same people doing the same thing to us and we're shocked.

Oh and I might add, maybe you should not have married the fat chick when you were an RJ pilot and had six kids. Then when you got hired at FedEx during COVID and you made $300k your second year then bought a $1.5M house thinking COVID draft and drop for draft would last for ever. Now your wife is screaming at you that she needs a new Suburban SUV for $100k to drive all your dumb kids and why can’t you buy it cause you are not an RJ pilot any more and all her friends whose husbands are at delta just got one.
