R1200RT,

If living in domicile is "picking family"? And, I think everyone agrees that seniority is important, no matter where you live...Then, why don't you bid HKG and move your family there? You could be senior, choose your schedule AND spend more time with them.

Well, seniority really matters to commuters. If I was number one I'd still bid reserve and do exactly what I'm doing. If I'm number last I really don't care. I'm not the one that mentioned seniority. I don't really need a schedule I want to sit in base and not work.
Even though Fr8dog thinks a reserve day is work I don't. If I'm home with my family and get paid (bonus)... guess what I'm still home with my family. It's a day of work if you are sitting in Memphis and your family is in another town.
If I went to HKG it would be a different type of hardship on my wife and I'd still sit reserve at home. I don't want any schedule good or bad.
If a Europe base opens maybe if my kids are still very young.

Sorry you are confused.

All this is true. Living in domicile is certainly less stressful.

But FDX has historically staffed short. When I lived in MEM Crew skeds used the reserves. There was no sitting at home when "on Call" you were used.

The last 2-3 years has been highly unusual. Give it another year or 2 and I doubt the reserves will be sitting around not flying on a R day.

Just one person's prediction. Enjoy it while you can.

It's almost like they are still trying to convince themselves! We're all smart enough to make our decisions based on what's important to our own families and our own lives.

I looked at living in domicile and we could not find or make the set up (land, community, proximity to family, schools, etc) that would work for us! I've always bid for lifestyle and not BLG, so I have no qualms about my number of days at home or my number of days at work. What works for us, may not work for you or RT. If the costs out weigh the bennies, FOR US, we would reconsider, but right now, they don't!

And in 9 yrs, 7 months and 24 days when I have my 25 yrs (or 11yr 1 month 9 days to 60) I won't be moving. I'll already be in my retirement home!
Look at the big brain on Fr8dog. Man you know I'm not trying to convert you. I just said ever place has it's draw backs. And the commuters went to general quarters.
You said/challenged me to "show you how Memphis is better" than where you live. So, I said you'd have more time with your family. Then you get personal trying to bash me about the way I work my schedule and compared you to me and how you do better, or implied as much.

Way off base dude, I said you lived like a rock star and you bash me for manipulating my schedule... what's wrong with you? (don't answer that I can't read another 500 word essay)

Well, looking at today's leveling, last day of the month, he is the only guy with more leveling than me, and mine consists of 12 R-days knocked out by VAC and 2 airport stby periods!

I had a vacation too and one other trip assigned on reserve (it was a line check or this would be my first and only trip this month on reserve) and most of it is carryover which will help me sit around next month.
I'm going to get JD to pick up the stuff for the bathroom. He's a buddy and will do when he is in town sitting around doing nothing.
BC I'm on a trip you bus guys can't even dream about. This is the kind of trip I got into flying for... I love it. As a commuter pilot you wouldn't understand. Enjoy SHV and IND......Try to control the envy.

Not to get invoved in a cat fight but did you get into the flying for the layovers? Or are the ILS's in butfudgestan that much better than the ILS in SHV?
